Today the preschoolers took on an exciting challenge – creating a football worthy of the World Cup.

The children explored shape, pattern, colour and creativity as they designed their own unique footballs. Some chose bright, bold colours, while others carefully added different sections, patterns and details to make their football stand out from the crowd.

Activities like this help children develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, creativity and confidence in expressing their own ideas. It was wonderful to hear them talk about their designs and explain what made their football special and super bouncy.

We think there may be some future designers in our midst.

One of our fellow villagers kindly left us two giant pumpkin plants on our preschool step this morning on their way to work.

We were all super excited to find them and send our heartfelt thanks.

This morning the children revisited their learning about animals and their habitats. We talked together about what a habitat is and why animals need them.

The children each selected an animal from the table and used pencils and paper to draw the habitat they thought their animal would need to survive and be happy.

We had some wonderful conversations about water, food, shelter, space and safety.

One particularly thoughtful moment came when a child drew a love heart in their animal’s habitat and explained that their animal needed love too. ❤️ Such a lovely reminder that kindness and care are important for us all.

It was a beautiful activity full of imagination, communication and shared ideas between the children.

Today’s child-led play turned into a wonderful game of teamwork and imagination.

Using noughts and crosses pieces, the children created their own game. They were calling out to each other and rolling the pieces across the floor to their friends.

It was lovely to see them working together, taking turns, communicating and using their creativity to make up new rules and ideas all on their own. Activities like this help build confidence, social skills, and problem-solving through play.

What an exciting day at Little Hedgehogs Preschool.

Today Farmer Johnny from our local farm, Bolton Farms, visited us with his HUGE blue tractor and the children absolutely loved it.

The children watched excitedly from the window as he arrived before heading outside one by one to explore the tractor up close. We measured the giant wheels, compared them to our heads, climbed the long ladder and even sat inside the cab! 🚜

The children used lots of wonderful vocabulary from our tractor book as they searched for different parts of the tractor — spotting the exhaust pipe, tow hooks and guessing where the engine might be.

A fantastic hands on learning experience that sparked so much curiosity, conversation and excitement. Thank you Farmer Johnny and Bolton Farms for visiting us today 🌾

This week we are exploring “On the Farm” 🚜

The children at nursery have had so much fun getting stuck into our farm themed sensory tuff tray, discovering different textures, animals, and imaginative play opportunities. Sensory play helps support communication, curiosity, fine motor skills, and creativity, all whilst having lots of fun.

We can’t wait for more farm inspired adventures. 🚜
