Hi, it is Erin here from HHT, and I thought I would share a few reasons why I enjoy tutoring, and perhaps encourage you to get into tutoring as well !

This week we were lucky enough to get to speak to the founder of HHT herself, Heidi Williams !

We asked Heidi what made her want to start the company, and here is what she said …

“Hey! It’s Heidi here, founder of HHT ❤️ I wanted to share my story on why I started a tutoring business and what it means to me!
When I was younger, I had a maths tutor who changed how I felt completely about maths, tutoring, school and really helped my confidence. All throughout school I found maths really hard, it hugely knocked me and put me back, I hated it and felt I never had teachers who understood that I did not understand anything they were saying!
My tutor was so personalised and so caring about me and my grade, I eventually passed my GCSE first time and finally seemed to understand maths, with a huge thanks to him!
As I started teacher training and went to university, I was so sure I didn’t want to teach in a school. After working in a school (and inspired by some wonderful teachers) I decided it wasn’t for me! After being an LSA and working 1:1 with students, I really found my passion and knew this was what I wanted to do.
Since then, I’ve had my business running for just under a year and I couldn’t be more proud of my students, my team and myself ❤️ I never thought I’d be capable of running a business, I still find it crazy that I have built this with a passion and with a vision.
I wanted to help children who were like me, not hugely academic and found school challenging - I wanted to give them hope and support to achieve their dream, just like I have done 💫
I adore my amazing team who work so hard for their students and are brilliant, beautiful people who are fantastic examples to their students. I feel so lucky to have this business, as well as working alongside a beautiful theatre school, it is a joy to adore what I do and it’s thanks to my lovely customers who make it happen 📚❤️

It is that time of year again, exam season is fast approaching ! These are our top tips for the best exam technique !

Make sure to also get a good night sleep the night before, eat a big healthy meal for breakfast/lunch and take a bottle of water in with you !

Here at HHT we know that revision can be a daunting task, and with the Easter holidays fast approaching, we thought that we would share our top tips for revision !

1. start early so it doesn’t pile up - revising little and often is more effective than cramming the night before !

2. make sure to plan in breaks - whether that be a meet up with friends or a trip out, it is important to keep your day varied !

3. make sure to look after yourself, drink lots of water and eat healthy food to fuel your brain !

4. create a study space that is quiet and distraction free - put your phone away whilst revising to maximise focus !

5. practice, practice, practice - past paper questions are the best way of revising, but make sure to mark your answers and learn from your mistakes !

What have you been reading recently?

This week at HHT we have been thinking about the importance of reading !

Reading just a few pages a day helps to strengthen a child’s imagination and it exposes them to a wide range of vocabulary - both of which are essential when prepping for the 11+ exam ! Asking your child questions at the end of each chapter is also an engaging method to improve comprehension skills !

However, reading is more than just a great way to prepare for exams, it is also excellent thing to do to relax before bed, so we recommend it for everyone !

This week at HHT we have been practicing some creative writing with story dice !

Story dice are a great resource to reduce the pressure some children can feel when confronted with the task of writing a story.

They provide interesting visual cues to help encourage creative thinking, and inspire unique stories, making the sometimes daunting task of creative writing fun and exciting !
