It’s half term! And tuition is taking a pause for the week. Just wanted to give a special shout out to all of my students who have work ridiculously hard with me this term so far and always come to sessions ready to learn and give it their absolute all! I’m so proud of you all! Have a lovely week all!

I work with a young lad who has cerebral palsy and learning differences. His gross and fine motor skills are severely affected. As a result, he really struggles with writing. Just look at this progress. 👀 I see him once a week and this is the progress over about a month. Phenomenal!! This is no mean feat for him. So proud!!

Colourful Semantics. Fantastic for early writers. Looks at word class and sentence structure in a very easy straight forward way using colour coding. Always a fun session when the colours come out!

Awesome session with E today. Absolutely smashed using commas for clarity and we had a laugh about the different meanings of a sentence with and without a comma. Eg: Let’s eat dad! Vs. Let’s eat, Dad!
Then we moved onto finding fractions of amounts. But she got that pretty quickly so we increased the level of challenge and used fractions of amounts of money where she had to calculate using decimal numbers. E totally beat me and won by miles!

I haven’t posted in a while. I’ve been super busy. Enjoyed all my sessions this week however haven’t managed to get any photos. I will try to get some of the activities the children are loving the most at the moment next week. The SATs booster group have got off to a flying start, working hard and really valuing their time with me to master those skills they need a little more confidence with.
Well done to all my students. You’re all fabulous and are making me extremely proud.
Quotes of the week:
“We love Tasha time!”
“Please can you stay longer… actually can you sleep over!”
It’s the best hearing these kinds of things from the children. And it’s not because I’m doing anything extraordinary but because of a change in their own mindset and confidence with their learning. Being successful and finally understanding something they’ve previously found tricky; having that ‘lightbulb’ moment, makes them feel good about themselves, releasing happy hormones. I’m just the facilitator in that. Seeing my students happy and confident is my greatest pleasure and absolutely what learning should all be about.
I’m pretty full now so will not be taking on any more students for the moment (if we’ve already spoken, but haven’t started yet, your slot is safe) but please do still get in touch as I’ll be starting a waiting list and may still be able to help out with resources and queries etc. if you have any questions I’ll do my best to help still, so please send a message.
Have a lovely weekend all!

Had a lovely session with one of my year 5 students this week. We were writing instructions so we started off with a bit of arts and crafts and made some Christmas tree decorations. Then she wrote instructions about how to make the decorations.
Writing instruction for something they have enjoyed and engaged with in the moment is so much more productive. It doesn’t need to be complicated. In fact the simpler the better because then they can really focus on getting in all of those feature of writing that belong in an instruction text. Gives the writing some purpose - I had a great time making this so now someone else can follow my instructions to make these too!
Quote of the day: “Please can you stay longer, I want to keep writing! That was so much fun!” Safe to say I left there grinning like a Cheshire Cat. This is what learning is all about!! If I can leave a student happy, confident and proud of their learning then job done!
