Whether you want to study dance as a GCSE, A-Level or ISTD Examinations, pursue a desire to perform on stage within the specialist Performing Groups or take part in recreational activities and classes, the Essex Dance Theatre delivers a range of services to the community with qualified staff on hand to help you reach your potential.

NEW musical theatre class starting Wednesday 16th September.

Wednesday: 5:00- 6:00

Join our brand-new Musical theatre class for ages 7+

A high energy space to sing dance and shine. From September, students will explore ABBA/ mamma mia and Wicked, learning exciting routines, songs and performance skills. Each term ends with an in-studio showcase, plus the chance to perform in our end of year show at Chelmsford theatre.

Perfect for beginners and budding performers alike- build confidence, make friends, and have fun on stage.

Esmee Gummer trained at the Essex Dance Theatre from childhood through to Call 1 of the EDT performing group. In her final EDT year, at 18 Esmee got into dance college. After her final Devon tour & the day after her final EDT Civic show, before she started F/T Dance College, Esmee went into hospital for a hernia operation. Difficulties under aesthetic meant she had lost the use of her legs and through personal resolution, strength, dedication, determination and courage had to learn to move, to walk and 6 years later, to run again.

The Nation's 5K Challenge is an inclusive movement initiative led by endurance athlete Esmée Gummer. Running from June 27 to October 3, 2026, Esmée is running 5,000 km across 77 cities in the UK and Ireland, averaging 50 km a day for 99 days, while hosting free, open-to-all 5K run clubs in each city to inspire one million people to get active.

As part of the Nations 5K challenge & her 5,000km run across 77 cities, Esmee will be running past the EDT dance studios in Dorset Avenue, Great Baddow CM2 9UB at 9am on Friday 28 August. Come and cheer her on…..

Essex Dance Theatre Annual Showcase was fast paced, exciting to watch and very well presented. The dancers are extremely talented and performed with amazing skill, grace and exuberance, a joy to watch. Congratulations must go to all involved, including the teachers, choreographers and backstage crew.
