We have been celebrating cultural diversity this week.
The children have good understanding that we are all different, have similarities, we are all important and we all belong.
The children used a mirror to look at the colour of their eyes, hair and skin to draw their self portrait.
They then talked confidently to each other about their differences.

Also this week we have been planting seeds for plant something day on Tuesday.
The children followed instructions well on how to plant their seed, we talked about the life cycle of a flowering plant.
We can’t wait to see the progress of the plants on tapestry.🌸

Today is world Bee Day so for this we have explored various activities on this topic.
We learnt many facts such as Bees have 4 wings and there are 25,000 different species of bees.

They children enjoyed exploring the sensory tray which was filled with yellow and black rice and honeycomb made from pasta, they used spoons and scoops to pour rice through the pasta.

The children’s favourite activity was baking honey biscuits and making honey chocolates.
We all had the opportunity to taste the honey.

Today the children chose to make strawberry mousse, they selected it from one of the recipe cards from the book area.
They were fascinated to see that it was made from jelly powder and carefully listened and followed the instructions on what they needed to do next.

The children listened carefully to information and facts about VE Day, one child telling us “they fought to protect us”.
We made Union Jack coloured flags to display in our windows at home and talked about what countries are in the United Kingdom.

We observed the children during their ‘home corner’ play today, there was talk about dips they had at their bbq’s they have had at home.
We decided to go with this and made a refreshing Tzatziki dip with them.
They all had a turn to chop, grate, squeeze and mix the ingredients.
Some of the children tasted it at snack time and said it was “nice”, “tasty” and “smells like cucumber”.

Following on from the children choosing what we bake, some of them asked if they could bake a cake to take home for their families, what a lovely way to encourage sharing.
They worked together to weigh, add, mix & zest the ingredients, they are getting really good at cracking eggs too.
The lemon drizzle cake smelt and looks amazing, we hope it’s enjoyed by all.

The children are taking the lead in what we cook at Preschool, they are independently accessing the cook books and choosing what they would like to make next.
Today they made pasta salad, they measured out the pasta and then began to chop up tomatoes, cucumber and peppers while the pasta was cooking.
Once the pasta was cooled they mixed all the ingredients together adding a dressing too.
This is a great opportunity to learn life skills and work on those fine motor skills to build up the strength in their hands which helps towards early writing.

This week we have talked a lot about the earth and how we can protect it.
The children enjoyed exploring this topic and are already confident about what we can do to help the earth and protect our oceans.
They used tweezers to remove rubbish from our ‘Butterfly Ocean’ and made cakes to resemble the Earth.

Today at Preschool we have learnt all about and celebrated St George’s Day.
We learnt many facts such as, the special flower of England is a red rose, Saint George was a brave soldier and a story is told that Saint George rescued a lady who had been captured by a fierce dragon.

We have baked cakes and iced the St George’s cross on them and we have painted our own flag.
