There are some words that start with the prefix "rhabdo-"! This prefix comes from the ancient Greek word "ῥάβδος"(rabdos)[rhAH-vthos]=stick, cane, ruler, rod, wand, stripe. So, all these words are pertaining to something that is, or looks like a stick, a wand, a rod etc.! Such words are : rhabdomancy=ῥάβδος+μαντεία, rhabdovirus=ῥάβδος+ἰός(virus), rhabdocoele=ῥάβδος+κήλη(hernia), rhabdomyolysis=ῥάβδος+μῦς(muscle)+λύσις(solution, remission, release, loosening), and others!
In contemporary Greek the word "ράβδος" is still in use with the same meaning!!

The word "pacific" comes from the French "pacifique", from the Latin "pacificus", from the Latin "pax"=peace! The word "pax", comes from the ancient Greek exclamation "πάξ"(pax)[pAhx]=silence, end of discussion, enough! It was one of the sacred three exclamation words used also at the sacred rituals in Elefsis and elsewhere, called the "mysteries"! It is also related to the word "παύσις"(pausis)[pAhfsis]=pause, which is where the word "pause" comes from which in contemporary Greek is "παύση"(pausi)[pAhfsi]!! (O.E.D, K. A very common ending in words is the suffix "-cracy". It comes from the Greek word "κράτος"(kratos)[crAhtos], which in ancient Greek meant the power, the authority! A classic example is the word "democracy"(δῆμος+κράτος)=(people+power)=the power to the people! Other words are "ochlocracy"=(ὄχλος+κράτος), "aristocracy"=(ἄριστος+κράτος), "plutocracy"(πλοῦτος+κράτος) and many others! In contemporary Greek the word "κράτος" means the state, which, of course has power!!

The word "nebula" comes from the Latin "nebula", a cloud, mist, fog, from the ancient Greek "νεφέλη"(nefeli)[nehphEhly], whence "nebela". The letter (φ), swapped by the letter (b), as "άμΦω", amBo. Then the letter (ε) swapped by the letter (u) "nebula", as "σκόπΕλος", "scopUlus". (Valpy)

The word "laconic" comes from the Greek word "λακωνικό"(laconico)[lah-coh-nicOh], referring to Laconia=Λακωνία[Lah-coh-nEEa], which is the area where Sparta is, in the Peloponnese!! It is known that the ancient Spartans were living a strict and austere life and they were men of few words! This exact way of living and speaking was described with the word "laconic"! In contemporary Greek the word is still used with the same meaning!!

There are plenty of words that start with "kera-", or "kerat-", related to the substance of "keratin"! This word and this prefix come from the ancient Greek word for the "horn" of an animal, which is "κέρας"(keras)[kEH-russ] and the genitive singular case of it, which is "κέρατος"(keratos)[kEH-rah-tos]=of the horn! Such words are: keratalgia=κέρατος+ἄλγος(pain, ache), keratototmy=κέρατος+τομή(cut, incision), keratoderma=κέρατος+δέρμα(skin, leather), keratoacanthoma=κέρατος+ἄκανθος(prick, thorn, briar), and more! In contemporary Greek the word for horn is "κέρατο"(kerato)[kEHrahtoh]!!
