Providing engaging sessions of baby signing and sensory play to encourage communication

18/05/2022

…. And that’s a wrap! Today’s class was the last class of Signing Sense.

When I tried to find a simple signing class for Alfie and couldn’t find what I was looking for, I decided to take the jump, use my Early Years training, and Signing Sense was born.

I have LOVED watching children learn signs, communicate confidently, and even sit at the front of the class with me to sing our songs!

But for now it’s time for me to move on to another chapter and so, for the near future at least, I pack away my sensory toys and bubble machine.

To all the families I met along the way - thank you. It has been an absolute privilege and pleasure to get to know you and your little ones. I hope the signs you have learned will serve you well.

Here’s to the future! Goodbye! 👋

Are you looking for a baby signing class?

Would you like that class to teach you simple signing, whilst also providing lots of fun in the form of stories, songs, bubbles and sensory toys?

Then look no further than

Signing Sense is a class designed for 0-3s to equip parents and caregivers with simple signing skills in a class that’s fun and engaging for the little ones!

We use songs, stories, bubbles and sensory play boxes to explore a different theme each week.

Signing Sense is a small independent class, set up by me (Kat), using my degree in Early Childhood, my experience of working with 0-5s in day care settings, and my own experience of signing with my two children.

I truly believe the combination of baby signing and sensory play is so special, as it really engages the children and allows the adults to explore an additional way of communicating, often before verbal language begins.

If you would like to book a place on Summer course, please drop me a message on Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp and I will send you over our booking information!

I can’t wait to share Signing Sense with you!

Learning our colour signs! 🎨

Signing is a skill that is so helpful to assist children in communicating. I love watching my eldest (almost 4) sign to my youngest (17 months), deepening their bond and reducing frustration for both of them!

Neither of their signing is perfect, but they understand each other. In fact they’ve got some of their own signs (one for the radio) that I’ve had to learn to keep up with them!!

Yet again I have been blown away with the renewals for my Signing Sense class. I’m opening up a few more spaces for our new term after the Easter holidays so I have 4 spaces for new families!

If you want to start your baby signing journey please don’t hesitate to send me a message !

Please!

Does your child long to stay on the swings? Both of mine have used the signs for ‘more’ and ‘please’ to continue swinging! It’s so much easier knowing when they want to continue, and also knowing they can sign ‘finished’ when they want to move on.
Signing reduces so much frustration!

What stories are you reading on World Book Day? 📖 📕 📚

This week we explored Spring and our gardens, learning signs such as flowers, bees and worms and we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar, learning the signs for caterpillar and butterfly! 🦋

I love it when the children get involved in the class, their engagement is such a joy!

Signing Sense is growing - and I need your help!

I’m constantly being asked about different days and venues for classes, and I would love Signing Sense to grow, so I need a second pair of Signing Hands!

Teaching simple signing and enabling play in our sessions is the most rewarding role I’ve ever had. Could it be for you too?

Have you thought about teaching baby signing before? Perhaps you’ve worked in a school or nursery and have seen the benefits of signing with young children? Get in touch - I’d love a chat!!

Hours and venue locations to be coordinated once the perfect person is found. This is a role that will be tailored to work around you, and your family. You are welcome to bring your children to the classes too, please don’t let childcare put you off exploring this opportunity.

I can’t wait to talk to you! My WhatsApp details are on our page or get in touch on Instagram. Drop me a message! Kat - Signing Sense

Signing Sense: House / Home

This week we are going to be learning about Things In Our Home. We’ve got some new mirrors to explore in our play session, as well as our favourite sensory toys.

I’m also going to be bringing back the bricks so we can build some houses too!

House and Home signs are really useful practical signs for your little ones to be able to tell you what they want and eases frustration for everyone.

Would you like to learn how to sign to your little one? And to encourage your little one to sign back to you too? Why not try a Signing Sense class?

I have 2 spaces remaining for after half term, please get in touch if you’d like to join us!

This has been the hardest week for me with Signing Sense. Cancelling my third class in a 5 week term because that damn positive line won’t disappear! I would never put my families at risk, but it doesn’t mean I don’t feel the frustration of being just me, with no one to cover when the inevitable happened.

Having said that, my families have been wonderful. Making sure my family and I are ok and being so understanding about rolling credits forward, and for that I am so truly grateful. Thank you all for your kind words!

In this craziness, this does mean that I feel ridiculous in saying that I am going to be opening bookings up this weekend! I have 2 spaces remaining for after half term. I will be plugging them all like mad. If you’ve read this far please like, comment, share and spread the word!

Covid sucks - here’s to next week!

Hello Everyone! And welcome to our first week of term for 2022!

What signs have your little ones mastered over our Christmas break? Alfie has really worked on food/hungry and now can clearly use this when he’s feeling peckish!

Check out my reel on Instagram to see Alfie in action!

I can’t wait to start classes back again - I have just one space left for this term.
