Tips and Tricks:
Parent Viewings,
I have worked in settings that insisted on an open door policy when it comes to viewings, their reason being our practice should be on point and ready to view at all times but in reality this was often stressful for management leading the viewing, staff & children, especially when Parents would turn up at inconvenient times such as lunch, sleep, toileting or home time.
Children need to feel safe and secure in your settings and having strangers in their space at their vulnerable times of day can be upsetting to them, cause pressure on the staff to perform taking their attention away from the children who need them and not make a great viewing for the parent.
Viewings are time consuming and incredibly important ensure that prospective family is signing up to your setting you want to give them the opportunity to see your setting at its best so consider this..
◦ Have set times during your day for viewings for example: 10:30 and 2:30,
◦ Block out days if you have a lot of work on and assign a manager to that viewing so they can clear their schedule.
◦ Take information about the family over the phone so the person conducting the viewing has names / ages / nursery needs
◦ Practice your viewings with your staff, this allows them to understand exactly what is expected of them and gives you confidence in their abilities.
◦ Give room leaders responsibility allow them to give a tour of their rooms - it’s a great confidence boost.
◦ make sure as a manager you are the one to see the family out and ask any questions.
◦ Arrange a time or date to call and chase up with the family and ask for feed back.
