Chelmsford Cathedral Education Team

We had a visit from Abacus Primary School in Wickford to the Cathedral yesterday. They were a delightful group of year 6 children. It was their first visit to the Cathedraland and they learnt about baptism, stained glass windows, the altar and they wrote their own prayers.

On Monday children from Octavia House travelled from their school in Great Baddow to visit the Cathedral to learn about the rites and rituals in the Cathedral and to experience the awe and wonder of the art work in the Cathedral.
They learnt about Baptism by baptising a baby.
They learnt about the Eucharist Service by standing at the altar re-enacting with communion wafers and a chalice.
They explored the whole Cathedral, listening to the stories in the stained-glass windows and looking at the art work in the Chapels and the whole building.
The last activity was where the Christmas story was re-enacted with each child playing part in the telling of the story.
They brought gifts to the Cathedral that they had made in school which we have hung on this tree to remind us of their visit.

We had a lovely visit today from Ford End and St Anne’s primary schools. The children made Advent Wreaths to take back to their schools.
