After some time to reflect and hold space for each other, we are sharing our reflections on the passing of a dear friend, colleague and inspiration—Professor Jason Arday.
We also invite our community to join us on Tuesday, the 1st of September at 17.30 for a gathering in remembrance, a space to share the heaviness but also the stories and reflections on the positive impact that Professor Jason Arday had on so many of us.

Official Statement on the passing of Professor Jason Arday:

The Black Researcher Consortium is devastated by the tragic and untimely passing of Professor Jason Arday. First and foremost, we wish to send our deepest condolences and love to his family, his wife, his children, his friends, his colleagues and his students.

Many of our Board members and team knew Jason personally, enjoyed close relationships with him and had collaborated with him on various research projects, publications, programmes and events together. As such, it has been a time for processing, grieving and seeking comfort in our nearest and dearest, in the memories that we hold with him and in our close-knit communities.
We recognise and are grateful for the depth, breadth and magnitude of the profound impact that Jason had on so many lives, particularly on the Black academic community. He was a remarkable man and an excellent scholar. He extended his hand to help others, opened doors and guided many through them with his kind heart, inspiring words and affirmative actions.

For many of us, this hurts on a visceral level because it is all too familiar: the constant challenge, the relentless scrutiny, the burden of proving our worthiness to hold prominent positions, the lack of grace to be human and make mistakes.

This is a poignant time to consider who we surround ourselves with on our own journeys. Who is there to ride alongside us? Who is there to uplift us when times are tough? Who is there to celebrate our achievements? Now, more than ever, we must lean into community for solidarity and strength, to hold each other and to forge a way forward together. We will be holding space for the BRC community on Tuesday, the 1st of September, at 17:30 online.

Jason once famously said:
“I would take a thread and a needle, and I would interweave love into our society… The essence of love might seem like a very underrated thing or a very melancholic thing, but it’s really important… Very rarely do I hear people talk about the things we could do to bring one another together.”

His legacy and impact will never be forgotten.
