Inside my online cooking community Kizuna Kitchen,we had our first guest expert, the amazing miso sommelier,Naoko Koji works to come and talk.
We absolutely loved it 😍
Our members benefit from Naoko-san's talk, understanding one of Japanese food key ingredients helps them to find the miso that they like and how to use it more in a variety of dishes and baking.
I would like to thank Naoko for kindly agreeing to come and do her inspiring talk to our members.

Hello, I’m Madoka, a Japanese cookery coach living in Kent.
I grew up around a family bakery and home cooked meals that were simple, balanced and full of care.
Now I help people who love Japanese food feel confident enough to cook it in their own kitchens.
Thank you for being here and sharing the journey with me.

There is something really powerful about seeing how something is made.
The process, step by step, the care, the planning, the details.
Especially in food and creative work where so much care happens quietly, long before the finished piece ever appears.
The thoughtful plating, the ingredients laid out on the worktop, the calm focus of someone completely absorbed in what they’re doing - these moments tell a story that no perfectly styled final shot ever could on its own.
Madoka’s work is a beautiful example of this. From growing and planning, to preparing and making the food she teaches others to cook, her process is rooted in traditional Japanese methods, thoughtfully adapted for people here in the UK. You can feel how deeply considered every aspect is in all that she does.
When you share how things are made, you invite people in. You show them the time, skill and attention that goes into your work, and that connection builds trust.
If you’re a maker or creative who wants your work to be seen for the care and craft behind it - not just the finished result - telling your story in this way really matters.
And if you’re curious about showing more of your process this year, I’d love to help you do that in a way that feels calm and natural.

明けましておめでとうございます!
Happy New Year 🎊
To celebrate the start of the new year,we have a special celebration meal called Osechi.
It's Japanese tradition and one of the cultural events that I carry on with my family in England.
There are some compromises and adjustments needed to be made to cook this meal outside Japan, but the principal and the feelings we get through this tradition are kept.
I kept this year's Osechi very simple.
Calmness, simplicity and gratitude are what I prioritised and I am pleased that I did this way.
The colourful plants from our garden added a note of cheerfulness to our celebration.
