An ever expanding, innovative school at the heart of the Wayfield community educating 2-11 year olds

Dear Parent/ Carers

We have recently received several emails and had many conversations with concerned parents regarding the incredibly high temperatures we are experiencing at the moment. As you know, we are doing all we can to make the everyone in our school community as comfortable and safe as we can.

I want to assure that the school will remain open.
The conditions in school are safe if quite uncomfortable and I know that several parents have considered collecting their child at or after lunchtime. Due to the extremely uncomfortable heat, we have decided to allow this for the remainder of this week. If you would like to collect your child early, please do so from the main school office at 1:15pm.

Of course everyone’s circumstances are different and we do not wish to impede anybody's ability to go to work. We will do everything we are able to ensure all pupils in school are as comfortable as possible.

I apologise that this is short notice, but this reflects our monitoring of the school.
Thank you for your continued support.

Kind Regards,
Mr Clayton
Headteacher

⚽️ Football Club Update ⚽️

Please be aware that, as the Year 5 & 6 Football Club is scheduled to take place outdoors, we have made the decision to cancel this afternoon's session due to the high temperatures.
The safety and wellbeing of our children is our priority, and we feel this is the best decision to keep everyone safe in the heat.
Thank you for your understanding.

🌟 Team Washington have had another fantastic week of learning and discovery! 🌟

In Literacy 📚🎃, we began exploring our new book *Pumpkin Soup*. The children have enjoyed getting to know the characters and discussing themes of teamwork, emotions and the strengths of each character. We have also been making predictions based on what we have read and observed so far, using clues from both the text and illustrations.

In Maths 🔢📅, we have been learning all about time, focusing on the days of the week and the months of the year. The children enjoyed discussing their daily routines, birthdays and special dates that are important to them and their families.

PSHE 😊👶 has been a real highlight this week as we started playing "Guess Who?" using baby photographs. The children loved trying to identify their classmates! If you have not yet sent in a baby photograph, you are still very welcome to do so.

Art 🎨🦁 was particularly exciting this week. I was blown away by the number of budding artists we have in Team Washington! Using an outline as a prompt, the children carefully sketched the animal they would like to create as a sculpture by the end of term. They showed incredible creativity and added lots of thoughtful detail to their work.

We have also continued celebrating positive choices and excellent learning behaviours through our Dojos 🎉, and it has been wonderful to see the children's enthusiasm and pride in earning them.

⭐ Star of the Week ⭐

A huge congratulations to Joanna 🌟 for her eloquence and confidence when answering questions during Guided Reading and Story Time. We are so proud of the thoughtful contributions she makes to our class discussions!

📌 Important Reminders

📚 Our library visit is fast approaching! Please consider volunteering to help if you are available. Unfortunately, we cannot go ahead with the visit without enough parent helpers, so any support would be greatly appreciated.

🏷️ Please ensure that all belongings are clearly labelled, as the warmer weather means jumpers and cardigans are often removed during the day.

💧☀️ As temperatures are expected to remain high next week, please send your child in with a water bottle and apply sun cream before school each morning.

🌈 Wishing all of our Team Washington families a wonderful, sunny and restful weekend!

Term 6 week 3 has been a very warm one, spending time in the sunshine.

We have spent the week focusing on our fine motor skills and health and self care looking after the dolls, cleaning them, dressing them and looking after them. Mrs Allen and Mrs fletcher from yr 2 came to visit us to play football with the children, which was a lot of fun. We have some budding footballers and goal keepers within our youngest learners.

Have a wonderful weekend, stay cool. Reminder to make sure your children have a hat on, sun cream and plenty to drink next week as it is going to be very hot week next week.

Team Holmes – Highlights: Term 6, Week 3 The children successfully completed their newspaper articles. They worked hard to edit and improve their writing and the finished pieces were something to be proud of. We then began our new text, The Giant’s Necklace, exploring first impressions of the characters and setting and making predictions about what might happen next.PE In PE, we continued developing our rounders skills. The children practised throwing, catching and batting, and worked well in teams to apply these skills in small games. There was lots of encouragement, fair play and growing confidence on display. In Design and Technology, the children wrote clear recipes and methods for their designs. They focused on sequencing instructions carefully and using precise language so that someone else could successfully follow their steps.
