🍁🍂🌿FEUILLE is the word of the moment at Fun With French! Who doesn’t love rustling through thousands of beautiful autumn leaves? 🍂🍁🌿🇫🇷

However, I can never think of the word ´feuille ´without dreaming of ´millefeuille’ too - one of my favourite french cakes - named ‘ a thousand leaves’ because of the many layers of puff pastry. Délicieux! ❤️

🇫🇷 La fête de la Toussaint 🇫🇷

Today the 1st of November is All Saints’ Day - ´la Toussaint’ (tous-les-saints). It is a catholic holy day and in France it’s a public holiday and a time when families visit cemeteries to remember and honour their deceased relatives. It’s traditional for families to put a pot of chrysanthemums on the graves of their family for la Fete de la Toussaint. 🌺🌸💐

🇫🇷 Feeling spicy? 🌶🌶🌶

For the French foodies out there this weekend October 23/24 is the famous Pepper Festival in Espelette just east of St Jean de Luz in south west France (Pays Basque). 🫑🌶

Along with Basque traditional dancing, and music, parades and pelota there is of course a lot of spicy food! 🥳💃🕺🪗🌶🥵

How did this all start? In 1650 a Basque navigator, part of Christopher Columbus’ crew brought chili peppers back home. And the rest is history. The first flowers appear in June and fruit in July. Harvesting takes place in mid-August then the houses are festooned with peppers hung out to dry.

Check out this great recipe for Pipérade - a delicious spicy tomato sauce/filling/ spread/accompaniment to almost anything!

🇫🇷😊THANK YOU PARENTS!

Just want to say a huge thank you to all my pupils’ parents for embracing our transition to online French classes. This was a big change for all of us but with your support and open minded approach we have had an amazing year!

The children have flourished in the online environment, meeting new friends, mastering all the fun of Zoom, playing word games, learning songs, performing role plays, taking a virtual tour round France, getting creative on the virtual white board, writing emails in French and building their confidence linguistically and socially.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every single lesson and can’t wait to start our second year of online courses in September!

Thank you Parents! None of this would have been possible without your faith and commitment.

Classes will start back on September 13th. Please contact me if you would like to enrol your child onto any of my classes:

🇫🇷SATURDAY SNACK! 🇫🇷

Croque Monsieur anyone? Perfect snack/brunch/late breakfast/ light lunch option for all the family. 😋

If you haven’t yet had the chance to savour the world’s most delicious ham and cheese toasty, try it out for yourself at home with Mary Berry’s easy recipe.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/mary_berrys_croque_40445

Why’s it called a ´Croque Monsieur’?

The croque monsieur originated in French cafés and bars as a quick snack. The name comes from the French words croque ("crunchy bite”) and monsieur ("mister"). The first time this sandwich is known to have appeared on a Paris café menu was way back in 1910!

Goes particularly well with a café au lait 😋

🇫🇷BRAVO LES ENFANTS!🇫🇷

Well done to all my fantastic nursery friends for a fun filled summer term of French. They excelled themselves in our ice-cream buying role play this week:

´Bonjour, je voudrais une glace s’il vous plaît’

´Merci, et au revoir!’

Naturally there were more complicated orders with the additions of sauce, sprinkles and a flake! 😃🍧🍨🍦 We are now fully rehearsed for the summer essential 👍
