Well what a year 2025/2026 has been!!!
Alongside putting 100% into making sure the children that attend Holyrood Playgroup have an enjoyable and memorable time we also....
Each week we put artwork and information for the parents including the topic - we have covered approximately 36 different topics, colour, shape, letter and number we are covering that week along with the planned physical activities. We also put information from health visitors, county Council, national health and local services like The Hub and The library on our Facebook to help keep our families informed.
We have continued to deliver the Speech and Language UK programme to help develop language skills for all our children.
We have been spending time in our fruit and veg garden, planting. Cultivating, weeding, watering and caring for our plants and as they produce fruit and veg we are using it as snack to encourage healthy eating and a better understanding of how food is produced.
We had a fundraising Christmas tombola at Tesco to enable us to take the children for a Christmas party at the soft play with a gift and a visit from the big man himself.
We took part in Chard Museums Christmas tree festival - we hope you saw the display the children worked incredibly hard on.
In the spring we had a funky hair day and wear your pj's to playgroup week to raise funds towards our summer trip. We also celebrated world book day with some awesome costumes.
We began utilising the sensory room at The Hive, visiting every 2 weeks or so in the afternoon. This has been a fabulous experience for the children and we will be continuing it in the next school year.
At the end of April we began posting a weekly activity to help parents support their child in school readiness.
In May we redeveloped the book corner turning it into a reading garden to encourage the children to enjoy accessing books in a relaxing atmosphere.
We also began collecting blue tokens in Tesco in order to win money to spend on wooden resources for the children - this is still ongoing please support us.
In previous years we have hatched ducklings and cared for them for nearly 2 weeks however this year we decided to do something different and instead had a visit from Bugfest. The Children thoroughly enjoyed meeting and handling the bugs.
This year's summer trip was a day out at Foxdown childrens farm, it was a very hot but enjoyable day feeding pigs and goats and brushing the rabbits and guinea pigs.
We celebrated 45 years of Holyrood Playgroup by holding a summer fair with games, table top sale and cakes as well as photos from the last 45 years on display.
Last week we took our school leavers to the soft play as an end of year treat and they were presented with a book and a canvas.
We hope all our families have enjoyed the past year as much as we have and we look forward to another brilliant year starting back on Monday 7th September.
If you would like your child to take part in all our fabulous, fun antics next year please get in touch via our page , website or phone 07980 032187.
