🍪✨ Whisking up some learning in Year 2! ✨🍪

Last week, Year 2 had a gingerbread-tastic time baking delicious gingerbread cookies! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

We tipped, poured, mixed, whisked, rolled, cut and baked our way through the recipe, putting our knowledge of imperative verbs into practice along the way! 🥣🧑‍🍳

Our classroom was filled with wonderful smells, busy hands and lots of learning (and maybe a little taste-testing too! 😋).

Who knew grammar could be so delicious? ❤️🍪

🐞🔎 Minibeast Explorers on the Loose! 🌿🐛

Last week, our EYFS and Infant children became little Forest School detectives as they headed outside for an exciting minibeast hunt! 🕷️🍃

Working in small groups, the children explored leaves, plants, logs and the ground, sharing magnifying glasses and carefully searching for tiny creatures hiding all around us. 🔍👀

Before our adventure began, we talked about what minibeasts are, what we might discover, and how to stay safe around insects. We learned that bright yellow and black markings can be nature’s very own warning sign—a clever way for some insects to tell us to keep our distance. 🐝⚠️

Our young explorers showed fantastic curiosity, teamwork and respect for nature, observing their discoveries without disturbing them. They were fascinated to see the minibeasts up close and loved sharing their findings with friends and adults. 🌱💚

From tiny crawlers to hidden creepy-crawlies, there was plenty to discover—and lots of “Look what I found!” moments along the way! 🐜🐌🕸️

Who knew such tiny creatures could create such BIG excitement? 🌳✨

🌈✨ Building, creating & exploring! ✨🌈

Our little learners had so much fun using their imaginations with the acrylic blocks last week! 🧩💡 They created colourful patterns, imaginative designs and fantastic structures, all while sharing ideas and working together. 🤝

Through play, they were busy developing their creativity, problem-solving and mathematical thinking, exploring colours, shapes, patterns and numbers along the way! 🔢🔷🌈

So much learning… and so much fun! 💛👏

⚡🔋 Electricity Explorers! 💡

This week, our young scientists became electrical engineers! 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬

Through lots of hands-on exploring, the children investigated different electrical components and worked together to build their very own simple circuits. They experimented with cells, wires, bulbs, switches and buzzers—and there were plenty of exciting “aha!” moments along the way! 💡🎉

We loved seeing their curiosity, teamwork, problem-solving and scientific thinking in action. Who knew learning about electricity could be so much fun? ⚡🔧🔬

What a fantastic night we had at Junior Camp last Friday! ⛺✨

A huge thank you to all the amazing parents who helped put up the tents , we couldn’t have done it without you! 🙌

We started the evening with lots of playground fun, followed by delicious pizza 🍕 and ice lollies 🍦. Later, the campers enjoyed some outdoor showers 🚿, plenty of tasty tuck 🍬, and lots of happy chatter before settling down into their tents for the night.

It was wonderful to see so many smiles and happy faces. 😊 We hope everyone had a great night’s sleep and enjoyed their Junior Camp adventure! 🌙💤

Last week we came together in the hall for our final breakfast concert of the year, and it was the perfect celebration of the incredible range of talent across Caversham Prep. From beautiful performances to confident stage presence and everything in between, the morning was filled with energy, pride, and joy.

A huge well done to all of our performers, you’ve truly shone and made the whole school proud. What a brilliant reminder of what can be achieved when creativity and courage come together. 🌟

Here’s to a year full of music, and to many more moments like this! 🎤👏

Art meets Science in Year 5! 🎨🧬

Last week, our pupils combined creativity with scientific understanding by creating self-portraits that were half "them" and half anatomically accurate human body diagrams.

The activity encouraged children to explore the structure of the human body while expressing their artistic talents, resulting in some fantastic and imaginative work. It's always exciting to see learning come to life when different subjects come together!

Well done, Year 5 future artists, scientists, and doctors in the making! 👏✨

🎤✨ Our Year 5 pupils put their debating skills to the test last week in a fantastic class debate!

The classroom was filled with thoughtful ideas, confident speaking and respectful discussion as the children shared their opinions and listened carefully to different viewpoints. 🌟

It was wonderful to see pupils building their confidence, thinking critically and using persuasive arguments to support their ideas. From powerful points to clever rebuttals, everyone showed excellent teamwork and communication skills throughout the session! 👏🗣️

We are so proud of the enthusiasm, maturity and creativity shown by all our young debaters! 💬✨

🌱🔬 This week in Science, our young explorers became plant detectives! 🍎🥕🌽
The children investigated different food plants and sorted them into six plant groups:

🌿 Leaves, 🌸 Flowers, 🥕 Roots, 🌱 Stems, 🍓 Fruits, 🌻 Seeds

We also discovered an interesting fact… not all vegetables are actually “vegetables”! 🤔 The children learned that fruits contain seeds inside, helping us tell the difference between fruits and vegetables.

Using real fruits and vegetables, the class carefully observed colours, shapes, textures and seeds while discussing which part of the plant we eat. 🍅🥒🍎

To bring their learning to life, the children then used playdough to create their own colourful fruit models, focusing on the patterns, shapes and seeds inside each fruit. 🎨🍉🍊

There were fantastic discussions, lots of curiosity, and some wonderfully creative creations throughout the lesson! 👏✨

A big thank you to Catherine Haines, our fantastic Climate Ambassador, for spending time with our Eco Council 🌍💚

Over the next few weeks, she’ll be working with our children, sharing ideas and inspiring them all about eco-sustainability. We’re especially excited for Monday, when our Eco Council will be joining her to lead a whole-school assembly, they can’t wait!

Watch this space as our young eco champions take the lead 🌱✨
