This is what I'm always trying to push in my study groups.

Keep asking 'WHY'? 🤔

Why did the writer choose that word or phrase in particular?
Why was it included where it was (e.g. is there a contrast? A motif or semantic field being built?)
Why does it have the effect it does?

Although saying a word 'makes the reader feel sad' or 'relieved' or 'magical' is a good start, it's not enough for those higher grades.

Keep pushing! 💪

English Literature in particular can be daunting - in general, three full texts to be read and studied as well a full poetry anthology. 😱🤯

But what does each exam board's specification look like? How might the texts change depending on your child's exam board?
