Ahoy there, shipmates! βπ΄ββ οΈ
Our pirates-in-training had a brilliant day making their own treasure chests with sticking and colouring. They went on a treasure hunt, carefully placing jewels and coins into the spaces to work on their fine motor skills. To round off our adventure, we enjoyed watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates!
A fun day full of creativity, imagination, and lots of treasure! πβ¨

Today in playgroup we focused on faces and features as part of our All About Me theme. The children had lots of fun making sticker self-portraits using eyes, noses, mouths, hair shapes, and crayons. We talked about different colours, hair styles, and emotions while they created.
The activity was excellent for fine motor skills, creativity, and self-awareness. Even the youngest toddlers enjoyed pressing stickers onto the paper and exploring the different shapes. We also used mirrors which helped the children create their masterpieces.

We read How Do You Feel? by Gillian Liu and had fun practicing different faces to match the feelings in the story. The children then made their own faces using playdough on laminated mats β lots of giggles pulling βhappy,β βsad,β and βsillyβ expressions!

Today we continued with our All About Me topic, focusing on My Home. We read A Squash and a Squeeze and talked about who lives in our houses. The children enjoyed using coloured teddy bear counters with matching houses and cups, practising their colour recognition, counting and sorting skills.
For our creative activity, the children had fun with a sticking activity where they made their own houses using different shapes. They chose doors, windows too. This supported their fine motor skills, creativity and shape recognition.
We even had a go and building our houses with bricks.

Today we carried on with our All About Me topic by thinking about our families. We shared the story My Mum by Anthony Browne, and talked about who is special to us at home.
For our activity, the children created handprint families. Each finger was given the name of someone special, and the older ones added extra details like hair. The younger children really enjoyed the painty handprints and giggled as we named each family member together.
We chose the toy people to represent our family members.
We sang the Finger Family Song and had lots of fun making up our own verses using the childrenβs real family names.
It was a lovely way to celebrate the people who matter most to us, and the handprint families made such a special keepsake. π

We kicked off the new term with our All About Me week with the lovely story Paper Dolls. The children enjoyed spotting details in the pictures and talking about what makes each doll unique.
For our activities, the older children decorated paper doll chains to look like themselves or their families, while the younger ones created handprint people (lots of giggles when the paintbrush tickled their hands!). We had a great time looking at everyone in mirrors, everyone different, but all special π
We also sang Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes with some silly verses to get moving and laughing.
It was a lovely start to the week, helping the children think about themselves and what makes them unique. π
