Here are another few snippets from our lovely week! Weโ€™ve been to playgroup, the park and soft play, as well as enjoying lots of fun activities here in the setting too.

Over the last few weeks, the children have absolutely loved playing our custom-made version of Uno, helping to develop their number recognition, turn-taking, mathematical thinking and communication skills whilst having lots of fun.

Weโ€™ve also had the privilege of exploring more of the wonderful outdoors. The children have jumped from log to log, used branches to create dens, and raced around the road track pretending to be cars, stopping at red lights, going on green and carefully following instructions. Itโ€™s been wonderful to see their listening and attention skills improving through meaningful play.

Watching the childrenโ€™s confidence, resilience, friendships and independence continue to grow every single day is so rewarding. Children really do learn best through play, exploration and opportunities to follow their own interests, and itโ€™s been another fantastic week full of smiles, laughter and learning.

We had a lovely trip out to the park, exploring, taking risks, learning, playing and enjoying ourselves!

The children used their physical skills in so many ways during this trip. They climbed, raced, slid, drew, pulled, pushed, jumped and showed many more physical skills throughout the day. It just goes to show how much of a difference simple trips to the park can make for little people!

Outdoor play provides endless opportunities for children to learn through first-hand experiences. It encourages them to explore their environment, solve problems, make decisions, build confidence and develop resilience as they try new things and overcome challenges.

Theyโ€™re all doing amazing and absolutely loving this summer weather weโ€™ve been having. Iโ€™m really impressed by the confidence, independence and resilience they continue to show during our activities and daily routines. Watching them grow, learn and challenge themselves is such a privilege.

An invitation to play, inspired by our discoveries this week ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿœ๐Ÿž BUGS!

After spotting so many bugs on our adventures, we created a mini beast set up to encourage further exploration, curiosity and conversation. A lovely opportunity to learn about different creatures, build language and continue following the childrenโ€™s interests through play.

Just look at some of our amazing drawing and writing skills ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜ Little people with huge creative minds!

At our setting, we love giving children the space, time and resources to explore creativity in their own way. Through drawing, writing and crafts, children are able to express their own ideas, make sense of the world around them and build connections through play and relationships.

These beautiful creations donโ€™t happen overnight either. Before children are able to master skills like mark making, drawing people and beginning to write, we spend lots of time developing those all-important fine motor skills. Activities such as play dough, threading, posting activities and other hands-on experiences help strengthen little hands and build the coordination and control needed for later writing and drawing.

The first two pictures are from a little girl who absolutely loves being creative โ€” creating pictures for Daddy for Fatherโ€™s Day, drawing people and adding kisses to almost every masterpiece she makes! (Sheโ€™s also been practising writing her own name and doing an amazing job at it๐Ÿฅน)

Our other little ones are learning so much too โ€” watching, copying, exploring alongside one another and growing in confidence every day. Itโ€™s wonderful to see how children inspire each other and develop these skills at their own pace. ๐Ÿฅฐ

As continues this is our reminder that babies and small children are most likely to drown at home in the bath or in the garden.

That's why our key message is to keep them in armโ€™s reach in water.

Many parents mistakenly believe bath seats will keep their baby safe, with potentially tragic consequences.

Please help us spread the message that bath seats are not safety devices.

๐Ÿ‘€โ€ผ๏ธ Letโ€™s address a common issue, and create awareness of the dangers.

Over the last few weeks Iโ€™ve had more people than usual with complaints of โ€˜faulty car seatsโ€™ however, 9/10 times food is the culprit, not a fault.

Today we went on a wonderful trip around the woods to explore, learn, use our senses and make discoveries using our binoculars and magnifying glasses.

As we walked through the woodland, the children developed their gross motor skills by carefully climbing up and down steep slopes and negotiating space across uneven ground beneath the pine trees. They showed determination, balance and coordination while moving safely and confidently through the natural environment.

Under the pine trees, the children made an exciting discovery โ€” rabbit poo! We followed the clues further into the woods and were delighted to spot some rabbits relaxing near the trees. Using our binoculars, we observed them from a distance and talked about why it is important to respect wildlife and avoid scaring animals in their natural habitat.

This led to discussions about animals commonly found in British woodlands, and we were excited to spot birds and squirrels too. The children shared ideas, asked questions and extended their understanding of the world around them.

While collecting and examining pine cones, we explored different sizes, shapes and comparisons, introducing mathematical language through play and investigation.

We also observed different flowers and talked about the bees we saw, discussing their importance in nature and encouraging curiosity about living things and habitats. Then once we got back we decided to paint pictures of the woods we had just visited and the animals we saw too.

EYFS links:
Physical Development โ€“ developing balance, coordination and spatial awareness on uneven terrain. Using fine motor skills to paint pictures of the woods and things we saw whilst exploring.
Communication and Language โ€“ discussing observations, asking questions and extending vocabulary.
Understanding the World โ€“ exploring habitats, woodland animals, insects and caring for living things.
Mathematics โ€“ noticing, comparing and describing size and shape.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development โ€“ building confidence, managing risks and showing respect for wildlife.

We had such a lovely day of exploration, curiosity and learning outdoors.
