Allow us to introduce our new program…

COMPETE

By now some young Rugby League athletes will be gearing up to start their journey on one of many scholarship programs around the country. If you have made it on to a scholarship then congratulations.

But as someone that has worked at every level in RL I can tell you for certain right now it doesn’t mean you’ve made it, you have a lot of work to do. You have to show commitment, ability, resilience and that you can learn. You will also be expected to make sacrifices that will be difficult.

People have differing opinions on scholarships and what purpose they serve. Whether you agree with them or not there are things in a scholarship program that are invaluable to a young athlete.

Accountability being one of the biggest. You are now expected to be responsible for your own development, they will give you the tools to improve but how well you apply yourself each session is completely up to you.

There are technical aspects as well and one of the biggest changes is the physical preparedness you receive on a scholarship program compared to your community training.

That’s where this program comes in.

COMPETE aims to give year 10+11 athletes the chance to continue to develop at the same rate and make sure that if a scholarship, academy or even a reserve grade come knocking you will be ready.

Our groups are smaller, we will push harder, you will get more feedback and most importantly you will develop as a player, athlete and most importantly a person.

Not getting on to a scholarship doesn’t mean the door is closed, it just means you have to get back to work with a progressive plan and a level of accountability and professionalism you haven’t yet encountered.

We will initially have 12 spots available (6 on each evening) to make sure everything about this feels different to what you have done previously.

Holiday Camp:

Our popular full-day camp is back! Running on selected dates during the school holidays, these sessions give junior rugby players a proper taste of what a professional training day looks like. Strength, conditioning, and skills 💪

Speed & Agility Course:

A focused 6-week programme designed to level up speed, agility and athleticism. Aimed at School Years 7-9 (and open to juniors from any sport). Small groups, high quality coaching.

Our next block of Iron Athlete junior sessions are available to book 💥

Next week we’ll be running our junior holiday camp and then into the new training block the following week 🙌

Over the last 6 weeks we’ve worked on:

New Strength Exercises 💪
Sprinting Drills/Mechanics 🏃
Hand Eye Drills 👁️

As well as our continued advancement or both attacking and defensive rugby skill 👏

In the next 6 weeks we’ll be introducing some different strength exercises, building off the back of what has been learnt so far.

We’ll also be looking to introduce some plyometrics and continue working on their athletic base 💨🏋️

Good movement starts early.

This block we’ve been learning the RDL, a baseline hip hinge movement most beginners struggle to pick up.

Every session before we lift, we go over the movement and our key coaching points to remind our junior athletes what we’re looking for.

Now we’re towards the back of the training block and all of our juniors are starting to nail it which will allow us to start looking at a load of other exercises in the weeks to come.

🚀 Holiday Camp - Wednesday 27th May 🚀

We’re returning with our Holiday Camp this half term for school years 5-9 🙌

A full day of Rugby League based Strength and Conditioning and skills!

We had loads of fun doing the last camp and think the young athletes got a lot out of it.

We’ll be running the same format as before, drop off at 8:45-9am and pick up 2:45-3pm.

Starting off with some in house games, skill, running drills and weights before heading down as a group to the field to finish off.

Getting better each week. 🏉

Contact is a huge part of rugby, but confidence in it takes time.

We see a big difference in the kids when they’re given the chance to learn it properly, step by step, in a controlled environment, with repetition and coaching.

More control, more confidence, and more understanding of the game 🙌

Easter Camps have been a blast the last two weeks.

All four sessions have been class to be a part of and finished off with a stacked final day. 🏉
