✨ Become a Mirembe Accredited School! ✨

At Mirembe Education Foundation, we are committed to supporting schools to provide high-quality education where every child has the opportunity to learn, develop and thrive.

Our accreditation programme recognises schools that demonstrate strong standards in teaching, learning and child development.

🏅 Schools can work towards an accreditation in three areas:

💚 Early Childhood (Nursery Section)
Recognising nursery sections that provide safe, nurturing and stimulating environments where young children learn and develop through child-centred and play-based learning.

💜 Primary Section
Recognising primary sections that demonstrate quality teaching and learning, effective curriculum delivery and assessment, learner wellbeing, strong leadership and continuous school improvement.

💛 Phonics School
Recognising schools that provide strong, systematic synthetic phonics teaching, supported by knowledgeable staff, regular phonics practice and a clear focus on improving children's reading and spelling.

Accreditation is more than receiving a certificate. It demonstrates a school's commitment to quality, continuous improvement and better outcomes for children.

🌟 Quality Education. Strong Foundations. Brighter Futures.

🌿 Is your classroom designed for children... or designed to impress adults?
This thought-provoking post from Hygge in the Early Years reminds us that the learning environment is much more than decoration—it's a powerful teacher in its own right.
At Mirembe Education Foundation, we believe classrooms should be places where children feel safe, calm, curious and inspired to learn. While colourful resources certainly have their place, every display, poster and learning material should have a clear purpose. Less visual clutter can create more opportunities for children to focus, think deeply, play creatively and develop independence.
As we continue supporting schools through teacher training and classroom development, we're encouraging educators to ask an important question:
"Does this environment help children learn, or is it simply filling the walls?"
What are your thoughts? Do you prefer classrooms with lots of displays, or calmer, more intentional learning spaces? We'd love to hear your experiences in the comments. 💚
📖 Original inspiration: Hygge in the Early Years

I want you to look around your early years environment and ask yourself a question…

Is this space designed for children… or designed to impress adults?

Years ago, when I first started teaching, my classroom looked very different to the environments I now advocate for.

The walls were lilac.

The display boards were covered in bright primary-coloured paper.

The tables and chairs were red, blue, yellow and green.

There were washing lines of laminated number lines, alphabet strips and colourful posters hanging everywhere.

And I genuinely thought I was creating an exciting, stimulating environment.

Because that’s what we had been led to believe children needed.

More colour.
More displays.
More things to look at.
More “learning” visible on every wall.

But over time, through experience, reflection and research, my thinking changed.

I began to ask:

What is all of this visual information doing to a child?

Research into classroom environments has highlighted how visual clutter can impact children’s attention and ability to focus. Fisher, Godwin and Seltman (2014) found that highly decorated classrooms can be distracting for young children, making it harder for them to concentrate on learning tasks.

The environment is not just a backdrop.

It is the third teacher.

Every colour, texture, object and image sends a message.

Children need environments that feel calm.

They need spaces that reflect the feeling of home — a sense of warmth, belonging and softness.

Think about the spaces where we feel most comfortable as adults.

We don’t usually surround ourselves with hundreds of competing colours, posters and visual information.

We choose objects that matter.
Textures that feel inviting.
Lighting that creates atmosphere.
Spaces that allow us to breathe.

And children deserve this too.

Now, this isn’t about creating beige classrooms.

A calm environment does not mean a colourless environment.

Colour can be thoughtfully added through soft furnishings, cushions, beautiful natural materials, a bright green plant, children’s own artwork, seasonal displays, or even a gentle watercolour wash on a wall.

The difference is intention.

Instead of colour shouting for attention…

Colour becomes part of the story of the space.

Within my Hygge in the Early Years™ approach, I believe we need to move away from environments that overwhelm children and towards spaces that nurture them.

Children don’t need a room that constantly demands their attention.

They need a room that allows them to slow down, connect, imagine and play deeply.

So I wonder…

If you removed half the visual noise from your environment tomorrow…

Would children lose something?

Or would they finally have space to see, think and wonder? 🤍

🌍🇺🇬 We Were Proud to Take Part in Uganda's First National Cleaning Day! 🧹💚

At Mirembe Education Foundation, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom. It is about teaching children to care for their communities, respect the environment, and take responsibility for the world around them.

Today, our children rolled up their sleeves, collected litter, and worked together to help keep our community clean. Through simple acts of service, they learned that everyone—no matter their age—can make a positive difference.

Together, we are helping to build cleaner communities and inspiring the next generation to become responsible citizens.

Small actions today create a brighter tomorrow. 🌱

📚 Help Us Hire One Teacher — Change Hundreds of Futures

Right now, there are children attending our programmes who are eager to learn but still struggle to read, keep up in class, or access learning support.

We want to change that — but we need your help.

We are raising £100 / $125 per month to hire a full-time qualified teacher who will support:
✨ Community library sessions
✨ Reading improvement programmes
✨ Tutoring for struggling learners
✨ Training and coaching for teachers

You can help make this happen by becoming a monthly sponsor:

💛 10 people giving £10 / $12 per month, OR
💛 20 people giving £5 / $6 per month

We are asking for a 12-month commitment to keep these programmes running consistently for the children who rely on them.

If you believe education changes lives, this is your chance to be part of something powerful.

✨ As this year comes to a close, Mirembe Education Foundation stands at a crucial moment. ✨

Education doesn’t pause for the holidays.
Children don’t stop needing support.
Communities don’t suddenly stop struggling.

What we raise before the end of this year will determine whether Mirembe’s programmes continue fully and consistently into the start of 2026 — or whether we’re forced to reduce support when families need us most.

💔 This isn’t an exaggeration.
It’s the reality behind the scenes.

Through Mirembe Education Foundation:
📚 £10 provides learning materials for one child
🍎 £25 supports a child’s participation in our programmes for a month
🧑‍🏫 £50 helps cover facilitator time for community learning sessions
🏫 £100 contributes to keeping our learning spaces open and running in January

Together, we are supporting dozens of children and families — but the start of the year is one of the most financially vulnerable periods for our work.

💛 Our end-of-year goal is to raise £5,000.
This will allow Mirembe Education Foundation to:
✔️ keep all programmes running without interruption
✔️ retain trained facilitators and mentors
✔️ provide learning resources from day one in 2026

We are incredibly proud of what has been built this year. The impact is real. The demand is growing. Now we need a financial bridge to take us from December into a strong, stable January.

✨ If you believe every child deserves access to education
✨ If you believe consistency creates lasting change
✨ If you believe communities deserve more than short-term support

👉 Please support Mirembe Education Foundation today.

We can also accept donations through money sending agents e.g. wise, wave, money gram, western union or world remit.

Every contribution matters.
Every share helps us reach our goal.
Every act of generosity keeps this work alive.

🤍 Thank you for standing with Mirembe — and for investing in what comes next.

✨ Giving Tuesday is tomorrow! ✨
A new chance to change a child’s story is right in front of us.

At Mirembe Education Foundation, we’re working every day to expand learning opportunities, strengthen families, and open doors that too many children never get the chance to walk through. Tomorrow, we’re inviting you to stand with us.

Whether you’ve partnered with us before or you’re ready to join for the first time, your support fuels real progress. Every contribution — big or small — pushes our programmes forward and helps us reach more children who deserve quality learning and a hopeful future.

We’ll be sharing full details tomorrow on how you can donate — either monthly or as a one-off gift — so keep an eye out.

If your heart is in education, community impact, or simply giving children a fair start, we’d love to partner with you. And if you’re already part of our journey, thank you — let’s keep building together.

Tomorrow is the day. Let’s make it count. 💛

📚 A Big Thank You from Mirembe Education Foundation! 💛

As the school year comes to a close, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to every school and every parent who has encouraged children to read, welcomed us into their classrooms, and supported our mission throughout the year.

Your commitment has kept our library buzzing with excited young readers. Watching children visit, explore new stories, and proudly choose books to take home has been a highlight of this entire school year. And we’re truly thankful for every opportunity to bring books directly into your schools.

Together, we’ve helped children grow in confidence, curiosity, and imagination — and we’re excited to keep building on this momentum in the year ahead. 🌟

Thank you for standing with us and believing in the power of books.
