Residential security (RST) is not for everyone, when we discuss this on the course, our view is that it is most ideally suited to those at the beginning of their careers or those who have crested the hill and are happy to no longer straddle the knife edge that can be Close Protection.
RST is an ideal opportunity for younger generation to be introduced to the complexities of working in a HNW environment before they take the next step of working more directly with family members. It is quite likely that they will end up on shift with a time served professional who will help them embed themselves in the role
However, there is another category that RST suits and that is those looking for a steady rotation to facilitate their own family life, ironically while facilitating the lifestyle for their 'work' family. Rotations can be anywhere from a week on/week off to a month on/month off. Having a set working rotation can make for a really good work/life balance, something that is often talked about but rarely achieved in our industry.
Recruiters/facilitators are very aware that there can be a high turnover with RST with people becoming disillusioned because they have been mis-sold what the role was all about; as a result there is a real effort to ensure that candidates are fully aware of what the job entails during the recruitment process. No-one in a house-hold or on an estate likes to see too many new faces.
Each RST task is different to another, on some the left and right of arc are huge whilst others have a very narrow band that must be strictly adhered to. Those on the team must be fully aware of what is expected of them and be comfortable providing that service.
Remember, no one needs security until they NEED security, so remain sharp, know the actions on, get the kit out and check it, ask questions to others and practise your drills.
