Over the moon to have won ‘New Tutor of the Year 2020’ at the TTLN Business Awards last night!!

Setting up a business a month before a global pandemic wasn’t the most strategic move, but it has been one of the best years of my life. Thank you to everyone who has liked, shared, commented and recommended me. Most of all, thank you to my amazing tutees and your parents. I couldn’t have got this award without the support of all of you❤️

I am delighted to have been nominated for the TTLN 2020 Business Awards! When I launched I had no idea that in my first month I would experience a global pandemic, school closures, cancelled exams and a LOT of time on zoom but it has been one of the best years of my life.

On a business level, I increased my profits by over 400% through lockdown, as well as curating and distributing free resource packs and *gaining* more students than I lost. On a personal level, I have made connections with families and students who will forever hold a place in my heart, and I am so grateful they’ve chosen to stick with me as I finish my degree. Plus, my zoom experience has made virtual seminars a bit easier🤣

Huge congratulations to all other nominees, I’m really looking forward to the awards evening on the 18th December and celebrating the end of a very tough year for tutors❤️

Our education undoubtedly has the biggest influence on the views of the next generation. When it holds institutional racism in its very core it becomes easy to understand how so many people grow up with these prejudices. I’d advise you to take the unconscious bias test. Just google “RACE IAT - Project Implicit”; the results will be uncomfortable but they are true. We need to stop breeding racial biases. We need to fix the institutional racism that exists in our education system.
