🌱 There’s something new growing at Station House…

Your Baby and You is our completely free six-week programme for parents and their babies.

And it’s not about teaching you how to parent. It’s about celebrating everything you’re already doing.

The cuddle that makes everything better. Answering their babble. Singing that song for the 400th time. Making each other laugh.

Because in those first 1,001 days, these wonderfully ordinary moments are doing something rather extraordinary.

Come and discover just how much is happening in the little moments you share every day. 💚

🚜 Old MacDonald had a farm… and our Preschool Bears brought it to life! 🐄🌾

There was plenty of scooping, pouring, filling and exploring at Station House Children’s Day Nursery as our Preschool Bears got stuck into an Old MacDonald inspired sensory adventure. 🐻💚

Rice and oats became our farmyard playground, with little hands using cups and tools to scoop, pour and fill. All that busy play was giving fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination a lovely workout without it ever feeling like work.

And, of course, you can’t have Old MacDonald without the sounds! 🐷🐑🐮 The children chatted about the animals, experimented with their different noises and shared their own experiences and ideas with each other.

A little bit messy? Probably.

A whole lot of learning? Absolutely. 💚

Because when children can touch it, hear it, talk about it and play with it, there’s so much more to discover.

🥄 Steady hands, sharp eyes and lots of concentration! 🌈
Our Preschool Bears took on a challenge that needed plenty of patience and a very steady hand!

Using spoons, they carefully balanced tiny pom poms and manoeuvred them around the tray, listening to instructions about where each one needed to go. It might sound simple, but those little movements were giving fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination a brilliant workout. 💚

And there was plenty of teamwork happening too. We heard the children guiding and encouraging one another with “It needs to go to the space here” and “Don’t let it fall off!” 🐻

Then we added even more to think about, introducing colour matching, numbers and patterns into the challenge. Balancing, counting, matching, talking, helping, problem-solving... all from a spoon and a handful of pom poms.

Sometimes the simplest ideas make for the richest play. 💚

🌈 It started with a song…
One minute our Preschool Bears at Station House were singing about rainbows. The next, they wanted to make some of their own.

Out came the paint and foil, and the experimenting began.

Colours were pushed, swirled and mixed across the shiny surface, with lots of wondering about what might happen when they met.

“Will they change?”
“What colour will it make?”

New colours appeared and conversations bubbled up as the children shared what they noticed.

Childhood is full of moments like this. One song. One idea. And suddenly, there’s a whole new direction to explore. 🌈💚

🌿 Bringing the woodland back with us…
After exploring our local area, our Preschool Bears at Station House had plenty to say about the things they’d spotted along the way.

So we brought a little bit of that outdoor adventure inside.

There was moss to investigate, soil to get stuck into and leaves that were very accurately described as “crispy”! 🍂 We talked about muddy earth and hard trees, added woodland animals and watched as the children’s own ideas began to shape the play.

New words appeared. Stories grew. Ideas were shared between friends.

Because the best adventures don’t always end when you get back to nursery.

Sometimes they’re only just beginning. 🌿💚

🍌 Snack tastes even better when you’ve made it yourself.
Our Preschool Bears got hands-on with snack time, carefully using safety knives to slice their own bananas.

Holding. Chopping. Concentrating. And perhaps sneaking a little taste along the way. 😋

It might look like a simple job, but these everyday moments are where confidence and independence grow.

Because sometimes the best learning doesn’t need setting up at all. It’s simply part of the day. 💚

📚 Big adventures beyond the nursery gates 🌳

Our Preschool Bears headed out into the local community for a trip to the library and park, and there was plenty to discover along the way.

As we walked, the children chatted about the route, spotted familiar places and shared stories about times they had visited with their families. It was a lovely opportunity to connect their world at nursery with their world at home. 💚

At the library, we joined in with the Summer Reading Programme, exploring books, stories and the excitement of choosing what to read. Then it was off to the park, where climbing, balancing, running and exploring gave those growing bodies a good workout too! 📖🌿

From conversations and storytelling to literacy, confidence and physical skills, a simple trip into our community became a morning full of learning.

🌾 From muddy footprints to outer space… 🚀

There’s been plenty to explore at Station House Children’s Day Nursery! 💚

We’ve been following animal footprints, wondering who might have made them and where they were going. 🐾 We’ve headed to the farm, discovering the animals that live there and the sounds, sights and textures of farm life. 🚜🐄

Our curiosity has travelled much further too. Right into space! 🌍🚀 We’ve explored planets, stars and the wonder of a solar eclipse, asking lots of brilliant “Why?” and “What happens if…?” questions along the way. 🌒✨

Back down on Earth, things got wonderfully messy in the mud kitchen, where scooping, pouring, mixing and creating turned mud into all sorts of imaginary concoctions. 🥣🌿 And when the bubble machine came out, there was chasing,
reaching, popping and plenty of laughter. 🫧

We even took our exploring to the seaside, discovering the sea, sand, shells and creatures we might find along the shore. 🌊🐚
Farmyards, footprints, planets, mud, bubbles and oceans might seem worlds apart, but to a curious child, they all begin in exactly the same place:
“I wonder…?” 💚

🧚 Once Upon a Fairy Land… ✨

A favourite fairy story sparked something rather magical for our Pre-School Bears. The idea to create a fairy land of their very own. 💫

As their imaginary kingdom came to life, the children explored different textures and scents, talked about magic, kingdoms and wings, and decided their fairy land felt “soft and kind.” 💚

Our older children brought favourite snippets from their fairy books into their play too, creating characters, narrating their own storylines and letting their imaginations decide what happened next.

From a story shared together to a whole new world created by the children. A lovely reminder that one book can take your imagination almost anywhere. 🧚‍♀️📖
