11years today I braved the self employment world, becoming a childminder was the best thing for Lola & myself, and allowed our family unit to grow stress free, thank you to my beautiful family’s pass and present for supporting my childcare setting.. you’ve all been totally amazing. Xx

So the proposal of 30 funded hours is great for parents but not the childcare providers!

Somewhere along the line it has been forgotten about the actual child care providers, their own emotional well-being , nurseries at braking point already.. new proposal wouldn’t even cover our ( childminders ) let alone having to employ staff. It’s currently term time only too.

On top of our working daily not only do we have to cover: ( in extra time & out of our own pockets)

Food (snacks & water at minimum)
Spare clothes / wipes & nappies / nappy sacks
Training
Insurance
Memberships
ICO data protection
Outings
Phone costs
% of bills
Craft
Toys
Equipment (buggies, car seats, highchairs etc)
Books
Advertising
Stationery
Travel costs
Wear & tear on our own home & furniture
Cleaning products

And many of us gift our mindees at Christmas and / or birthdays.

Unpaid hours, including; planning, progress tracking, learning journals, next steps, 2 year checks & our yearly accounts. Chatting with our parents on evenings, weekends and sometimes while on holiday!!

After all those outgoings we also need a salary.

So all those people who think £4.25 (depending on your local authority) an hour multiplied by 3/4 kids for 10 hours a day is our salary, are very, very much mistaken!

And funding is paid twice per term, not monthly as our bills are expected to be paid. Plus the yearly safeguarding audit expected by your local authority.
