Exploring nature up close!

Yesterday, we were very lucky to have some special leggy visitors - stick insects!

Our children were absolutely fascinated by our tiny guests. They patiently held them and watched with wide eyes as the insects climbed gently up and down their arms.

We used this hands on experience to learn all about these insects, including their habitat, what they like to eat and how big they grow.

What a great day of curiosity, bravery and hands on learning.

Buzzing into a brand new sensory adventure today 🐝🐝🐝

We had the sweetest time exploring all things bumblebees with a very sticky messy play.

We whipped up a gooey yellow cornflour, that drips just like real honey. We stood rigatoni pasta upright in clusters to create the perfect honeycomb cells. Watching little fingers scoop and pour the gloop into the tubes is amazing for hand eye coordination.

We also made our own bumblebees using paper plate bases. We set out black and yellow strips of paper encouraging our children to stick them down in their own unique way.

Our children dived into the world of insects today, specifically ladybugs, with some hands on, creative fun.

Here is what we got up to:

🍪 Biscuit decorating: we spread bright red icing before adding chocolate chip spots.
🤌🏻Pincer Grip Practice: picking up those tiny chocolate chips was a fantastic workout for our finger muscles.
🧽Bath Lilly Painting: we used textured bath lillies to paint our very own unique ladybugs.
🔢Maths & Counting: we counted every single spot we added to our ladybugs.

Just like real ladybugs, every single creation is completely unique - just like us!

Inspired by “The Very a hungry Caterpillar’ we chopped up apples, pears, plums, strawberries, oranges and watermelon to make our very own unique fruit salad. It was the perfect way to practice fine motor skills and enjoy a healthy snack 🍎🍐🍓🍊🍉

Today’s activity was all about the Very Hungry Caterpillar. We followed along with the classic story and had so much fun “feeding” the caterpillar each food item in the exact order he ate them. It was a fantastic, hands on way to practice storytelling and sequencing.

We recreated a messy tray using the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ as our inspiration. Using dyed spaghetti and play food we followed the story as the caterpillar ate his way through lots of different foods. What a great activity for exploring textures, building fine motor skills and talking about different foods 🐛🐛🐛

Today, our little learners made their very own hungry caterpillar. We combined reading with art to build upon our fine motor skills.

The children used balloons as stamps to paint the caterpillars body, before adding their own legs and of course some eyes. 🐛🐛🐛

Today in preschool, our little learners explored the amazing life cycle of a butterfly. We read the classic book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle, followed by a fun, hands on activity where the children identified the correct sequence from a tiny egg to a beautiful butterfly.

Roar! We have had a prehistoric blast celebrating World Dinosaur Day today. Our little paleontologists jumped right into the Jurassic world with two incredible hands on activities that sparked so much curiosity and discovery.

The Great Dinosaur Dig: children explored a messy play tray filled with hidden dinosaur skeletons. They used their investigative skills to carefully uncover the bones and piece them together to make their own dinosaur skeleton

Dino Footprint Art: we rolled out the play dough and used large dinosaur figures to stomp across it. The children loved examining the deep footprints left behind, comparing sizes and shapes.
