Fine Motor stations in P1! πŸŒŸβœ‹

We’ve have been developing our fine motor skills through our different stations this week!

The children have been busy transferring pom poms using tweezers, practising mark making, building their names, creating pictures on the peg boards and getting creative with play-doh.

Lots of busy little hands building the strength, coordination and control we need for writing and everyday tasks! πŸ’ͺ✍️✨

πŸŒ³πŸ‚ Victorian Games at Forest School! πŸ‚πŸŒ³

P7 took their Victorian learning outdoors for Forest School today! πŸ’›πŸ’™

After learning about how Victorian children entertained themselves, the pupils were challenged to design and create their very own outdoor game using only materials that would have been available to children during Victorian times. 🌿πŸͺ΅

Working in groups, they drew inspiration from games they already knew, including bowling, mini-golf and maths games, before putting their own creative twist on them! πŸŽ³β›³

Each group had to decide:
⭐ the rules of their game
⭐ what natural materials they would need
⭐ how the game would be played
⭐ and, most importantly, how to win! πŸ†

Once their games were built and tested, each group gave the rest of the class a short demonstration, explaining their rules and showing everyone how to play.

There was lots of creativity, problem-solving, teamwork and communication on display – and some very inventive games! A brilliant afternoon of Victorian learning in the great outdoors. πŸŒ³πŸ‚πŸ’›πŸ’™

Our fabulous P2 mathematicians have had a brilliant week getting hands-on with ten frames. We started by mastering our counting up to 10, then levelled up by introducing a second frame to count and add all the way to 20!
The children loved building and recreating their own ten frame layouts to crack their number bonds up to 20. Practical maths at its bestβ€”super proud of everyone's hard work! 🌟🧠✨

Worm Hunting! πŸͺ±

Primary 3 have loved reading Superworm! This week in Forest School, we made our own wormery and went on a worm hunt! πŸ”Ž

We followed the instructions to create our wormery, adding stones for drainage, then layers of sand and soil. Then it was time to find some worms!

Worms love wet weather, so we decided to trick the worms into thinking it was raining! To do this we poured water onto the soil, and jumped up and down to make the sound of rain hitting the ground! 🌧️

We were very successful hunters and managed to find lots of worms for our wormery, and we have researched all of the things they like to eat! πŸŒπŸ“πŸ₯•πŸ₯¦

P1 - All About Me! ✨

As part of our All About Me topic, P1 have loved learning all about our amazing bodies! πŸ₯°

We started by singing a fun song all about the different parts of our bodies before helping Miss McBurney put the bodies back together again! We had to think carefully about where each body part belonged. 🧩

Then, we worked together to design our very own giant bodies, adding all the different body parts we had been learning about. We had so much fun learning, creating and working as a team! 🌟

🌟 PowerPoint Presentations 🌟

Primary 4 have been learning all about the incredible Louis Braille. We explored his early life, how he invented the Braille system and his legacy. We then put our knowledge to the test by creating PowerPoint presentations in the ICT suite. πŸ’» We worked in partners, typed up the information that we had learnt and even added pictures! πŸ€©πŸ‘πŸΌ

Pop Art! πŸ’₯

As part of our Superheroes topic, Primary 3 have been looking at onomatopoeic words found in comic books - like boom, bang and pop! 🌟

We looked at work by the artist Roy Lichtenstein, and had a go at creating our own β€˜Pop Art’ style comic book words! πŸ¦ΈπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ¦ΈπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

First, we added stars and other details around our word. Then we painted them in bold colours such as red, yellow, blue and green. Finally we added some β€˜Ben day dots’ to add a real comic book effect! πŸ’₯

P7 have been stepping back in time to discover what life was like for children in the Victorian era! πŸ•°οΈ

We learned all about the different jobs Victorian children were expected to do, from working as chimney sweeps and factory workers to selling goods on busy streets and working in coal mines. β›οΈπŸ

We were shocked to discover just how young some children were when they started working, the long hours they faced and the dangerous conditions they often had to endure.

In our ICT lesson we worked together to research some of the jobs and then used iPads to present our information in a factfile!

It certainly made us appreciate how different childhood is today! πŸ’›πŸ’™

Welly Wednesday! πŸŒ³β˜€οΈ

Primary 2 had a super first Welly Wednesday. They enjoyed reading in the outdoor garden and exploring the outdoor play environments. Some children hunted for minibeasts and created bug houses while others enjoyed the swings. Some budding architects even worked to build their own homes. 🏠

After break, we worked in pairs to sequence numerals before creating groups of the correct number of autumnal items. 🍁 πŸ‚πŸƒ
