🌟A selection of Graduate work 👌hand-picked by at our Degree Show back in May has been exhibited at the festival this week, and looked fab displayed on the old Welsh dresser in the kitchen at Cardigan Castle.

Congrats to all the selected students!🥳

👨🏻‍🎨🧑🏽‍🎨👩‍🎨 kicked off their first brief by finding out which pre-loved mystery object their raffle tickets paired them with.

🔮Their destinies are now linked with their item as they prepare to examine, explore, document, research and discover more about it from all angles, through many mediums and across multiple contexts - who knows where it might lead?

🦁He’s on his way! The big reveal of our bronze statue of Folly Farm’s beloved lion Hugo is set to take place at the Pembrokeshire zoo in October, where he will be installed at a date to confirmed.

Our Year 2 BA (Hons) Fine Art students rose to the challenge of creating a commemorative bust of Hugo, to capture his lovely soft and laid-back nature.

Each student created a life-size clay sculpture of Hugo and Folly Farm staff including Hugo’s keeper came to pick the one they felt best captured his gentle character.

Student Katie Morrissey was declared the winner, and then the long process of creating her sculpture in bronze began at our on-campus bronze foundry.

We have documented the whole process and will share the various stages of Hugo’s creation in the run-up to his installation at Folly Farm.

Here’s a glimpse of all the stages of the mould-making process up to the point where it was ready to take to the kiln.

If you would like to learn the craft of creating sculpture in bronze, we’re proud to have the facilities and expertise to teach this process.

💎 Congratulations to alumna , who was awarded a cash prize and the opportunity of a solo show The Waterfront Gallery last night in recognition of the excellence of her submission to Wales Contemporary 2026!

💎 Louise has recently completed a Graduate Residency with us following her first-class Honours Degree in Jewellery Design studying with BA (Hons) Programme Director Katie Owen, and her work has been gathering many admirers - us included!

💎 The Wales Contemporary exhibition runs at the Waterfront Gallery in Milford Haven from September 2nd - 26th, and will be well worth a visit!

🏺 Along with using local clays for her new ceramic work, Joy Palin has created unique glazes using repurposed materials, such as slate processing waste.

🏺 This produced the bronze-tones seen on one of the ceramic vases pictured, and may have been what caught the eye of the selectors for the Wales Contemporary Prize Exhibition 2026 The Waterfront Gallery.

🏺 Joy is one of our recent Graduate Residents, and is an alumnus of our BA (Hons) Ceramics course, which she joined as a mature student. In our Testimonials Highlights you can find an interview with her, recorded when she first started on her degree with us - how time has flown!

🏺 Joy intends to further explore the use of glazes made with repurposed materials, and if you’d like to see this new work, it will be on display at the Milford-Haven based gallery from September 2nd until September 26th.

📸 Photography students bringing Tyisha to life

This summer, Photography students from Carmarthen School of Art have been working alongside artist and BA Photography Programme Director Huw Alden Davies on this ambitious, collaborative arts project.

Our photographers have been out documenting the inaugural Gŵyl Tyisha Festival, alongside Kate Dunwell and Karl Sedgwick, capturing the festival's energy while also supporting Huw’s collaboration with Amanda Savinellie and Renata Ostiak to create portraits of descendants of Jac Tyisha and local festival volunteers.

The project has also brought together former CSOA students, who have been collaborating with Huw to deliver creative workshops in local schools — connecting younger generations with the history and heritage of the Gwendraeth Valley.

And there’s more to come! Our students will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in the upcoming ‘Tyisha’ exhibition, presented as part of Ffoto Cymru, alongside some of Wales’ leading artists, including Paul Cabuts, Peter Finnemore, Kathryn Campbell Dodd, and Mohamed Hassan.

Rooted in the story of Jac Tyisha (John Hughes) and the Rebecca Riots, Tyisha explores Welsh history, identity, protest and belonging through photography, performance and collective creativity.

From the community procession through Tumble to the photographs documenting the people who make this project what it is, our students are helping turn local history into a living, shared story. ❤️📷
