Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

I am delighted to welcome everyone back to Queen Elizabeth High School for the start of the 2026–2027 academic year and to introduce myself as the school's Acting Headteacher. I hope you have all enjoyed a restful summer and are looking forward to the opportunities ahead.

This is the first of my fortnightly Headteacher's newsletters, which I will use to keep you updated on the life of our school, celebrate the achievements of our young people and share some of the exciting work taking place across QEH. I hope these newsletters will provide an opportunity to keep our families connected with what is happening in our school community.

Having worked at Queen Elizabeth High School for over ten years, I feel incredibly proud and passionate about serving the young people and families of Carmarthen. QEH is a very special community, and I am committed to ensuring that every decision we make as a school puts the best interests of our pupils at the heart of everything we do.

This year, our work will continue to be guided by our core values of Caring, Learning and Leading.

PUPIL ACHIEVEMENT!
Layla, completed a solo 15 mile walk for Trigeminal Neuralgia Awareness Saturday, 29th August along the Tywi Valley Path from Abergwili museum to Dryslwyn castle and back again.

Trigeminal Neuralgia is a debilitating facial pain condition that causes electric shock like pains through the face. The medication needed to control this can leave the sufferer weak, dizzy, and fatigued. It is a condition that affects her family personally.

QEH Celebrates Record Breaking GCSE Results as 9 out of 10 pupils achieve 5 or more GCSE/Level 2 qualifications at A*-C!

Queen Elizabeth High School is celebrating another year of excellent GCSE results, with Year 11 pupils achieving outstanding outcomes across all measures. The results reflect the hard work, resilience and dedication of pupils, alongside the unwavering support of staff, parents and carers throughout their time at QEH.

Key Highlights
● 22.9% of pupils achieved 5 or more A* or A grades - 3% above National average
● 89.3% of all pupils achieved 5 or more grades at A* to C - 27% above the national average
● 96.3% of all pupils achieved 5 or more grades at A* to G
● A Capped 9 Score of 382
● All Year 11 pupils left with a recognised qualification
● Pupils achieved excellent outcomes across a wide range of subjects, demonstrating the breadth and strength of achievement at QEH.
