It was sunny, the acoustics in the chapel were lush, and I performed ‘Ikaw’—a song from the Philippines—which was lovely for the international guests to hear. There were drinks on the lawn and music filling the castle grounds while the guests explored and the couple had their photos taken on the beach.

This request was a very special one to learn! Ikaw is a song from the Philippines meaning ‘You’ so I learned to play all the syllables and lyrical phrases in another language which I enjoyed :-) The feel of the song was perfectly grand and tender with a lovely build up to come in to. I love all the requests I get, and I hope this one is chosen again as it rolls effortlessly off the fingers and the chord structures are wonderfully flowy.

Taking requests from the children as usual- the flower girl requested ‘Let it go’ and sung along with all her heart while dancing and spinning. So cute!! 🥰

Mix 5 harp workshops, a botanic garden, and a group of curious humans aged 7 to 70 together for the most inspiring, creative festival by .care.gofal.celf at Gardd Cymru | Garden Of Wales

The best part wasn’t the performances or my face paint or my Tetris skills fitting all the harps in the car both on the way there and on the way back 🤣 It was everyone who came along, shared ideas and helped turn the beautiful surroundings of the Botanic Garden into a giant musical sketchbook for the day.

Some of my favourite comments:

🌳 “Best thing I’ve done in a long time.”

🌿 “Best session at the festival.”

🌺 “Fastest 45 minutes of my life.”

🪉 “I can’t believe I’ve played four songs and improvised in one session on the instrument I’ve wanted to play since I was a little girl.”

Groovy Blue I didn’t want to wash it off but had a wedding the next day!!

My Llandeilo harp class earned their Blue Peter music badges this term. Best part for me was learning what music means to them and what they enjoy listening to with their families. So insightful and meaningful! Music really brings us together. 20 excited harpists enjoyed playing upbeat songs - Golden & Here comes the sun.

We workshopped, held individual lessons & masterclasses, performed and had a wonderful weekend of it! Loved the tipi for my workshop session- amazing vibe and amazing students. Lovely BBQ.. concert .. ah when is the next one? Diolch Helen & Paul

A really special wedding for friends this week in Carmarthen Registry Office with the ever versatile shoulder strap harp…

I started off with some of my own choice of music alongside requests. Harvest Moon making an appearance for the bride’s dad (excellent music taste!).

Then came something completely new for me.

At the registrar’s cue I head outside still playing to the atmosphere, and walked the couple down the aisle to Songbird! I think I may now be slightly obsessed with this idea!

After years of performing, timings like that don’t really phase me anymore, but I still felt emotional doing it. Possibly slightly ridiculous that my own playing nearly made me cry 😅 Blaming my friends all being there!

Then it was Better Together for the signing, Send Me On My Way for the exit, and free drinks afterwards so I had one each of my favourite 0% largers and beers to celebrate!

Pretty perfect day really :-)

Harp teaching with a difference :-) I love the diversity of my working week in my four schools, and try to teach what I would have enjoyed as a child! Whole class teaching with a variety of learning methods- Vivaldi’s ‘Spring’ and K-Pop play alongs, melody games and opportunities to solo over improvisations. Small groups up to grade 3 using my own methods and compositions. Private tuition on lever and pedal harp both in person and online. Then my Sundays finish off with the adult ensemble named by my daughter “Chwarae a Chwerthin” because we always have a good time!
