The Pet Gundog – Leading the way in pet gundog training since 2010. With over 40,000 books from The Pet Gundog series sold worldwide, and the term now being common parlance, Lez Graham is very proud to be hailed as The Founder of Pet Gundog Training. Up until 2010, when The Pet Gundog book was published, the term 'pet gundog' didn't exist... it was Lez's husband that came up with it as a snappy, e

asy-to-remember website name for her training classes. In fact, the first two publishers that Lez approached turned her down telling her that no one had heard of or was interested in, pet gundogs or pet gundog training and that the concept, and the books, would never catch on. Since 2007, Lez has helped tens of thousands of pet gundog owners improve their relationship with their dogs, achieve harmony at home, and control on the field. She's been fortunate to help those wanting to train their dogs in the way that nature intended, helping them to achieve contented, relaxed pet gundogs that are a joy to be around, whether that's to throw dummies on a field for, take to the pub, or go out on the shooting field. In 2016 she launched The Accredited Pet Gundog Instructor programme. The first and only one of its kind, the APGI programme is an intensive 18-month course and is the only course that can accredit trainers to teach The Pet Gundog Certificates. In 2022, The Pet Gundog Club was set up help owners train their dogs when a suitable training class wasn't available locally but who still wanted to train their dogs to a high standard, whether that was just for fun or for more formal pursuits... and in 2023, The Pet Gundog Club was awarded the Best New Online Dog Training Membership.

Darling Dante... he never did have particularly good eye/mouth coordination... 💜🐾

He knew what he was supposed to do, he was excited about doing it, but actually catching the sweetie didn’t happen very often...

Can you trust your dog around food?

As hard as it is to get your head around; dogs don't steal... ever. They may take something from the table, out of the bin, from another dog, or even from your plate... but they're not stealing; stealing is a human concept.

A dog is an opportunist with the classic 'see it want it take it' mentality, but, and it's a big BUT... they will only do it if they're allowed to do it. And by that, I mean that the reward for taking it outweighs the consequences.

This is why, from a very early age, while your puppy is very malleable we teach NO. It's much easier and far gentler, to teach a young puppy no as described earlier than to indulge them and then have to come down firmly when they hit adolescence.

The key, as always, is prevention by being vigilant and not giving your puppy the opportunity to take things that you don't want him to have.

A young Faelan walking calmly past ducks and geese, interested in them, absolutely, but without putting any pressure on them, which is why they were quite happy to stay settled beside the loch and largely ignore him.

It’s an important lesson for any dog, but particularly one who may eventually be expected to work around game.

Before we teach them when to hunt, we need to teach them when not to.

Ignore first. Hunt when asked. 🐾
