Forest School session on Wednesday with Carluke High S3 pupils. We were at Milton LNR to plant some native trees. We put in oak and rowan to increase the biodiversity of the site :) Well done everyone!!!

This morning we had an indoor classroom session to start the production of our bird nest boxes. Some great effort was put in to carefully measure all the sizes and get the planks cut accurately, holes drilled and screwed together.

These bird boxes are destined for Milton Local Nature Reserve to enhance the biodiversity of the site by providing nest sites and we'll get them put on some trees next week . Well done everyone in the Carluke High School forest school 👍

Thanks to some funding from Lanark & District Round Table, some of the young people from Carluke High School have been participating in outdoors education sessions in the local woodlands.

This week's session was very productive with everyone being able to demonstrate how to safely set up a fire area, start a fire, boil water and put up a basic shelter. These skills will be built on over the coming weeks. For the last ten minutes of the session a rope swing was put up over a branch... Next week will have a knotty theme and see if they can pick up some useful ways to tie cord and ropes.

It's felt like such a long time, but it's so good to get back outdoors with some school groups again!

“Another fabulous morning for these P7 boys with forest school. The wet start never damped their spirits as they showed great resilience when trying to start their fires. Today they used the fire to boil water and had a cup of warming soup. (1/2) ”
