Good Foundations Day Nursery

Good Foundations Day Nursery ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Where little feet make big steps!

Weโ€™re a charity-run nursery in Carlton ๐Ÿก offering a safe, loving ๐Ÿ’™ and inspiring โœจ setting where each child is nurtured, encouraged, and celebrated as they learn, grow, and flourish ๐ŸŒฑ in their early years. One of our main focuses at Good Foundations is for the children to benefit from learning through play in a friendly and positive environment. Within the nursery we have four rooms dedicated to v

arious age groups, with activities that are stimulating and appropriate for each childโ€™s age and personal development. Our staff all take pride in working closely with the children and parents to ensure that each child is getting the best quality of learning to get them ready for when it's time to go to school! Good Foundations is a place for children to come socialise with their friends, make new memories and to experience different ways of learning alongside each other.

โ˜€๏ธ WISDOM WEDNESDAY | TOP 10 SUN & HOT WEATHER TIPS โ˜€๏ธ

With temperatures rising, here are 10 simple ways to help keep babies and young children safe and comfortable in warmer weather:

1๏ธโƒฃ Keep babies under 6 months out of direct sunlight.

2๏ธโƒฃ Encourage children to spend time in the shade, particularly when the sun is strongest between 11am and 3pm.

3๏ธโƒฃ Use a high factor, broad spectrum sunscreen suitable for children and reapply it regularly, particularly after water play.

4๏ธโƒฃ Use sun hats and lightweight clothing to help protect skin from direct sunlight.

5๏ธโƒฃ Offer drinks regularly throughout the day. Young children may not always recognise or tell us when they are thirsty.

6๏ธโƒฃ Never cover a pram or pushchair with a blanket or muslin for shade. This can restrict airflow and cause the temperature inside to rise.

7๏ธโƒฃ Keep bedrooms and sleeping spaces as cool as possible. A room thermometer can help you monitor the temperature.

8๏ธโƒฃ Adjust clothing and bedding for the temperature. Babies should not be allowed to become too hot while sleeping.

9๏ธโƒฃ Look out for signs of overheating or dehydration, including unusual tiredness, irritability, excessive thirst, fewer wet nappies or dark urine.

๐Ÿ”Ÿ Remember that babies and young children can be affected by heat more quickly than adults, so regular drinks, shade, suitable clothing and opportunities to cool down are important throughout the day.

A few simple precautions can make a big difference during hot weather. โ˜€๏ธ

๐Ÿ’™ WISDOM WEDNESDAY | Safer Sleep ๐Ÿ’™

This week's Wisdom Wednesday is all about safer sleep.

At our monthly staff meeting last night, our team took part in a refresher on safer sleep guidance. As early years professionals, we regularly revisit important topics like this to ensure our knowledge stays current and that every member of our team continues to provide the safest possible care for every child.

The photo below was part of one of our training activities. Staff were challenged to identify all of the hazards within the sleep environment before discussing why each one could increase the risk to a baby or young child.

We thought this would be a great opportunity to share some key safer sleep information with our families too.

Did you know?

โœ” Babies should always be placed on their back for every sleep.

โœ” Babies should sleep on a firm, flat mattress with a fitted sheet.

โœ” Cots should be clear, with no pillows, duvets, loose blankets, cot bumpers or soft toys.

โœ” The recommended room temperature is 16 to 20ยฐC. Babies should be dressed appropriately so they don't become too hot.

โœ” A smoke free environment before and after birth helps reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

We encourage all families to take a few minutes to familiarise themselves with this guidance too.

๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’™ Wisdom Wednesday ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿง

Welcome back to Wisdom Wednesday!

This week weโ€™re sharing a simple reminder that some of the biggest milestones begin with the smallest opportunities. ๐Ÿ’™

Encouraging children to do little things for themselves each day, whether thatโ€™s pouring a drink, putting on their own coat or helping to tidy up, helps build confidence, resilience and independence that will benefit them for years to come.

๐Ÿก Challenge of the Week

This weekโ€™s challenge is all about celebrating learning at home! Weโ€™d love you to upload a home observation to your childโ€™s Ovivio account.

It doesnโ€™t have to be anything big or planned. Some of the best learning happens during everyday moments, whether your child has helped with baking, cared for a plant, enjoyed a favourite story, built an amazing tower or simply tried something new.

๐Ÿ“ธ By sharing these special moments, youโ€™re helping us gain a bigger picture of your childโ€™s learning and interests, allowing us to celebrate their achievements and build on them at nursery.

Thank you for continuing to work in partnership with us. Together, we can support every child to grow into happy, confident and capable learners. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŽ“ An End of an Era ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ’™

Today marks a very special milestone as many of our wonderful preschool children enjoy their last day at Good Foundations before beginning their exciting journey to school in September.

It has been an absolute privilege to watch each and every one of you learn, grow, laugh, make friendships and become the confident little people you are today. We are so incredibly proud of you all.

The day you first walked through our doors,
You held a grown-up's hand.
Today, you leave us standing tall,
Ready for the next adventure life has planned.

We'll miss your laughter, smiles and hugs,
The little things you do.
But we'll always be so proud to say,
We once knew a little you. ๐Ÿ’™

We hope you all have the most amazing time celebrating at your Graduation Party today. It will be a day full of smiles, laughter and special memories as we celebrate everything you have achieved.

To all of our wonderful families, whether you're moving on to school or returning to us after the summer, we wish you a fantastic summer break filled with fun, adventures and precious family time.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your child's early years journey.

With love,

Kara - Nursery Manager
& all the staff at Good Foundations Day Nursery ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒˆ

Thinking about starting potty training, or wondering if your child is ready?

Every child develops at their own pace, so weโ€™ve put together some simple tips to help you recognise the signs of readiness and support your child with confidence.

Remember, accidents are all part of the learning process and every small step is progress. ๐Ÿ’™
