👏A huge thank you to Holly Mattock👩‍⚕️, a chemotherapy nurse who previously worked as an endoscopy nurse for 10 years, for visiting our Year 13 Health and social students and delivering a fantastic session on bowel polyps.🌟

Holly shared her first-hand experience of working in the NHS and explained how bowel polyps are identified and removed.
It was a fantastic session and a great opportunity for students to gain a real insight into NHS careers 🏥, while linking their Anatomy & Physiology 🧬classroom learning to real-life experiences.

Year 7 have made an excellent start to the new academic year with attendance standing at 99.45% It’s lovely to see them taking part in extra-curricular clubs, making lots of new friends along the way and enjoying their classes.
Thank you to all the parents and carers that have taken the time to message to say how much their child is enjoying school.

🏉🏉U15 County Cup Rugby🏉🏉

Caldew 50: 0 Nelson Thomlinson School

Last year’s U14 County Cup Champions kicked of the season with a tough home fixture against a strong NTS side. With the wind behind their backs Caldew started brightly gaining good territory in the oppositions 22 and great work by the forwards eventually opened up space for Wylie W to break through and score with fly half Ben N converting . Moments later Ben turned provider with a clever cross field kick that was well taken in the air by winger Sev T who then finished well in the corner to take it to 12-0. Prop forward Tomas then got into the action with several great carries down the pitch and he eventually had just too much power for the NTS line to handle and he grounded the ball to take it to 18-0 at Half time.

As the second half played out more scores came from the powerful Jackson C who rampaged two over with good footwork and excellent hand of work. Solid defensive work from the pack kept NTS out and special mentions to Simon H who somehow managed to hold up an opponent in the try zone to prevent NTS getting on the score sheet. Ben’s great footwork and agility allowed him to score three fantastic tries all followed up by successful conversions. 🏉🏉🏉

A great performance by the entire pack and every single player should be very proud, full credit to NTS who had a brilliant defensive line all night and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season.

⚽️Year 8 Boys Football⚽️

Our Year 8 boys football team travelled to Hebburn on Monday afternoon to play against St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy in the English Schools Elite Cup.

It was a brilliant game with two high-quality sides. We went in at half-time 2-0 up with goals from Harry K and Oli W.
We dominated the majority of the game, but St. Joseph’s had a stint in the second half which could have seen the score levelled. They scored early on in the second half, but Caldew managed to keep chances to a minimum whilst under sustained pressure. Riley E then came on and scored to seal a 3-1 win for the lads.  
Every single player was outstanding and should be very proud of their contribution to a well deserved win!

Year 12 visited the Newcastle St James’ Park Stadium UK University & Apprenticeship Search Event today as well as a fantastic tour of Northumbria University campus.
Students had the opportunity to speak to a large range of Universities and apprenticeship providers in one place as they start thinking about their future options.

🏉 Year 7 Rugby 🏉

During the first few weeks of term many of our Year 7 boys have been attending our after school rugby training.

Last night some of those players attended a rugby festival at NTS for an introduction to competitive school rugby. Great progress was shown as the lads ran over five tries against NTS and six against RRCA. Special mention to Harry W, Daniel M and Oakley who carried the ball well all night. The lads came up against a very strong Netherhall team in the final game and did well to keep them out for long periods of the game with Netherhall passing the ball well into space.  A great start lads and we are sure lots more our Year 7’s will be representing the school in rugby as the term progresses.  
For all you Rugby fans out there we have a big County Cup fixture at Caldew School next week with Year 10 taking on NTS in a repeat of last years semi final.

🏐 Sixth Form District Netball Tournament 🏐

This afternoon, our Sixth Form Netball team travelled to Keswick for the District Netball Tournament for the first time in many years. The team was made up of our Year 12 and 13 students, with some fantastic support from a number of our Year 11 girls.

We faced some tough opposition and had to work hard to defend some strong attacking play. The girls took a little while to get back into their netball rhythm, but once they did, they produced some fantastic set play and secured some excellent shots.

It was an absolute pleasure to take these girls this afternoon. It has been fantastic to watch them develop into such solid, confident players who genuinely enjoy their netball and playing together.

For some of the team, this was their final ever school netball match, so it was wonderful to see them finish their school netball journey in style, enjoying a fantastic afternoon of netball with their teammates. 💙🏐 🟠
