🦁Mighty Lions🦁

Today we celebrated the birthday of our friend child U who brought some balloons to share with her friends. The children were handed a balloon by child U who wanted to give them to each of her friends who said thank you when they were given a balloon. Music was played and the children ran, danced and bounced their balloons around the room enjoying moving to the music and playing with their friends.

Through our party today we took part in the four British values…

🐒Mini Monkeys🐒

🧩Puzzle Mania🧩

Today in the mini monkeys room due to the interest in the puzzles that were out in the table and the extended interest in all animals, we decided to further our interest by doing a provocation based in this interest.
The intention of this provocation was to allow the children to further their interest in puzzles and animals and further develop their problem-solving skills and abilities .
We implemented this by laying out a variety of different animal puzzles for the children to explore and attempt to put the pieces in correctly, we also put out a couple of books that were based on shapes and animals for the children’s to look at.
The impact of this provocation was that the children learned to problem solve by trying different ways to fit the pieces into the trays, they also learned how to turn pages independently, we also made some of the animal sounds.

Today our learning included

🧩 fine motor skills 
🧩 gross motor skills
🧩sharing and taking turns.

🦒Exploring Giraffes 🦒

Autumn spices and slices 🍁🍊

Today in the Exploring giraffes room the children were invited over to explore the autumn spice set up. Abbie added oats into different sized bowls and mixed in spiced seasoning to give it a smell. The children were able to use the spoons provided to transfer the oats into the different bowls. This gave the children a chance to explore and use their imaginations. Child MM said “look, I have a cookie” as they picked up the dried orange slice. Child LP put the orange slice to their nose to see what they could smell. Some of the children used their hands to feel the texture of the oats. The children had lots of different ideas to cook and make different foods with what they could see. We took turns and shared the resources really well together.

Throughout this activity the children also developed skills in other areas such as:

🦒Exploring Giraffes 🦒

👗🧢Exploring giraffes fashion show👖🦺

Today in exploring giraffes we have been exploring the dressing up chest. The children all really enjoyed showing off their own unique style and letting their personalities show through their way on styling the clothes.

The children really enjoyed interacting with this activity. Child HB enjoyed getting stuck in and finding many different pieces for his outfit. Child HR enjoyed picking out the pink scarf, hat and bag ready for her little shopping trip. Child FR enjoyed finding the builders costume and a makeup bag and she used it as a hat. Child CE enjoyed exploring the “All About Diversity” book and pointing out all the different animals and people.

The INTENT of this activity was to develop their creativity and their self care as they try and put on the clothes, shoes and hats on them selves. We IMPLEMENTED this by proving the dressing up clothes and providing any support the children may need. The IMPACT was the children developing their self care and their confidence when picking out the clothing they are going to use for their outfits and showing off their own unique style.

🐒Mini monkeys🐒

🎶🌳🦓🐆sounds of the jungle..

Today in mini monkeys the children were presented with a provocation of lots of different kind of animal masks and animal related books! The children tried all the animal masks on and with the help of the ladies the children managed to have a good go and make all the animal noises themselves.

Child e.ja enjoyed recreating the movements and sounds a monkey makes! She really encouraged other children to learn the animal noises!

Child e.t really enjoyed exclaiming “roaaaaarrrrrr!” With the lion mask on!

The INTENT of this activity was to follow the children’s interest in different animals and their recognition skills to match the noises with the correct animal.

We IMPLEMENTED this by providing different resources for the children to explore.

The IMPACT of this activity was that the children developed their social skills by turn taking and had fun exploring resources they loved.

🦒Exploring Giraffes 🦒

Today child HB brought a postcard into nursery from his holiday in Spain,So to follow on from this we set up a provocation of a aeroplane and wet sand so we can make sandcastle like we do on holiday. The Intent was to follow on child HB interest brought into nursery while also building on the children’s communication and language along with fine motor skills and understanding cause and effect. We implemented this by turning the table over and adding chairs along with luggage,passports and not forgetting the postcard. For the sand Rebecca added sand to a metal dish with water adding spoons and bowls for the children to make their own sandcastle. Child MR “ it’s wet” she said touching the sand. “I’m going high up in the sky” said child HB. The impact of this activity was we achieved the intent the children learned new vocabulary such as “Postcard,passport,sandcastles” understanding cause of effect that adding water will make the sand wet som it is able to mould into a shape they would like. While talking about our own life experiences going on holidays.

Let there be light 💡

The children who have just joined our preschool group have been curious about the projector and what it does so today we provided the children with resources with the intent for them to create their own picture then move the switch across to reveal what the projector does.
The activity was implemented by the the translucent shapes and stars being placed on the table with the projector. As the children had a turn, one at a time, they were asked what they were making a picture of, the children had individual ideas such as “Daddy” “the night sky” and “a pattern.” The children selected particular shapes and placed them in a specific place to their own liking. When their picture was finished Emma asked the children to move the switch. After doing this and seeing the light the children immediately turned around, looking at their picture being reflected. “Wow!” “Look at my picture on the wall” the children exclaimed.
The impact of this activity was the children learned what the purpose of the projector was as well as showing their own personality and creativity when making their pattern and picture. The children built on their shape and mathematic knowledge as they counted the pieces and identified the counters. The children also showed a lot of pride and a sense of belonging after making their creation, calling on peers to show off their pictures.

This activity developed the children’s learning in the following areas;

🦷✨ Little Teeth, Big Difference! ✨🦷

Looking after your child’s teeth starts from their very first tooth! 💜

Healthy teeth help little ones eat, speak, sleep, learn and grow, and good habits started early can help prevent tooth decay.

🌟 Simple ways to protect little smiles:

🪥 Brush twice a day for 2 minutes with fluoride toothpaste
👶 Brush for your child when they are very young and supervise brushing until at least age 7
🍭 Cut down on sugary foods and drinks, keeping them to mealtimes where possible
🥤 From around 6 months, introduce an open cup or free-flow cup and encourage drinking from a cup
🚫 From 12 months, avoid bottles and encourage drinking from a cup
💧 Choose water or milk between meals
🦷 Visit the dentist regularly and start dental care as soon as the first tooth appears

💡 Remember — baby teeth matter! They may not be here forever, but keeping them healthy gives children the best start for their developing permanent teeth.

We recently had a visit from jonathon from AP Smilestars who introduced our preschool children to the supervised toothbrushing programme

🪥😁 and we are excited to continue to learn how to look after own teeth and develop positive brushing habits and understand why looking after our smiles is so important.

🦒 Exploring Giraffes 🦒

🍂 Autumn Collage 🍂

Today in the Exploring Giraffes room we have been following the interest of child AW who loves collecting natural resources such as conkers, leaves and sticks on their way to nursery. So to further their interest we decided to set out an activity so that they could explore with the resources more.
The children were provided with sticky back plastic that they could stick the resources on, child MR was counting 1,2,3 as she stuck the leaves on. Child CE “ I got a green one” as he shook the leaf on to the easel. Child K scrunched the leaves in her hand.

During this activity we developed our fine motor skills Picking up or crunching leaves and applying pressure to stick the leaves pressing items down builds the small hand and finger muscles.Sticking things on to sticky surface promotes spatial awareness and precision We also added new words to our vocabulary such as “crunchy, autumn”. While also sparking curiosity about season changes well done giraffes.

🐒Mini Monkeys🐒

🐻We’re going on a bear hunt🐻 (25/9/26)

Today in the Mini monkeys as we have been very interested in the bear hunt book, we decided to go on our very own bear hunt, incorporating all of the textures and surfaces that the characters encounter along the way.
The intent of this provocation was to allow our senses to take over and feel different textures on our feet as we walked through the different scenarios that the characters come across.
We implemented this by getting as many of the different textures as we could e.g grass, soil and snow (tissues) and laying them out in a trail like fashion along the floor.
The impact of this provocation was that the children got to experience different textures with their feet and learn what it feels like.
The children were happy to come over and have a go with the ladies, who helped them navigate the trail all the way to the end.
