The children were very excited as the window was opened because the crystals hanging there started to move reflecting light and rainbows around the room.
Kerryann suggested making a rainbow picture and asked how big we should make it.
The answer was “big, bigger than Kerryann and Lorraine” so we decided to make it outside.
Using the clear glass board the children were able to create pictures using tissue paper squares using techniques such as placing them flat or scrunching them up. Placing some randomly or in a pattern creating a picture.
We draped a rainbow fabric over where we were playing so we had a rainbow den too.

🐒Mini monkeys🐒

🚗🫧car wash🫧🚗

Today in mini monkeys we have been doing a car wash in interest of child LW. We got a tuff tray and filled it with different types of cars a container of water and some magic snow as bubble soap.

The children really enjoyed interacting with this activity. Child LW got stuck right in and started putting the sponge in the water and scrubbing the dirt off the cars, he also pointed on some cars and said “cars.” Child ET enjoyed feeling the magic snow and squeezing it between her fingers. Child EB enjoyed using the clothes to wipe away all the dirt and snow off the cars.

The INTENT of this activity was to develop the children’s fine motor skills and their sensory experiences. We IMPLEMENTED this by providing the material and support when needed. The IMPACT of this activity was the children developing their fine motor skills and their sensory experiences with the texture of the magic snow.

While taking part in this opportunity the children were able to develop in many ways, such as:

🦒 Exploring Giraffes 🦒

💦 Elephant sprays 💦

Today in the Exploring Giraffes room after breakfast we looked at the story called “Have you seen Elephant?” Child FR brought their favourite pink elephant in so we thought it would be great to read a story for their interest. This got the children talking about elephants, stomping and using their arms to make long elephant trunks. We went outside and the children were invited over to an activity where there very different sized elephant on the grass and in the water! The children had the chance to use their fine motor skills and try spray the bottles to cool the elephants down with water. This challenged the children as they had to pull and use their grasp to make the spray bottles work. We had lots of elephants stomping and making splashes and many giggles through out the morning as the spray sprinkled over everyone. Child FR used the elephant mask and placed it on their elephant teddy! Child FS tried the mask on as well, we had lots of turn taking through out and sharing. We can’t wait to tell you about our water fun day with the elephants!

Today the children asked to make a glue picture so they selected a range of different resources for their pictures then talked to each other while they were being creative they discussed the shapes, colours and textures of the different things while talking about the patterns or the things they were creating.
The children were free to create how they wanted with no adult led goal provided just the resources which led to a lot of different ideas from all.

🦒 Exploring Giraffes 🦒

Ready steady PUTT ⛳️🎳

Today in the Exploring Giraffes room we went outside where the children were invited over to play and take part in a range of different gross motor skilled activities. Abbie set out some wooden bowling pins along with wooden and metal balls. The children rolled these to knocked over the pins and would carefully balance the pins back up again each time. The children cheered each other on and watched as they took turns with each over. Child MM really enjoyed this and used her concentration as she kneeled down to roll the ball directly towards the target. Rebecca set out some food resources to use for our winning holes on the grass. We then used small ping pong balls and a wooden stick as our golf putt. Child JM carefully used the stick to gently hit the ball into the hole. We also had wooden rainbow shapes that are curved to give the children a mix of different shapes to get the balls this was a great activity for their physical development and they had so much fun all morning at giving it their best aims! We can’t wait to tell you about our mini golf adventure in the nursery garden!

🐒 Mini monkeys 🐒

📚Story time 📚

Today in mini monkeys we have been exploring some story books to follow the interest of child EJ. The children were provided the resources needed such as a few blankets, a lot of story books and some teddies.

The children enjoyed interacting with this activity. Child EJ enjoyed getting right into the stories, her favourite book was a monkey book. Child ET enjoyed giving the kangaroo a massive hug and reading a book all about baby animals. Child EB enjoyed reading a book all about a cuddle monster with a big smile on his face. Child EC enjoyed ready a book all about monkey’s and rabbits.

The INTENT of this activity was to develop the children’s vocabulary by reading books and to encourage an interest in reading. We IMPLEMENTED this by providing the resources and support if needed. The IMPACT of this activity was the children developing their vocabulary and developing their developing their fine motor skills.

The mud will wash off but the memories will last a lifetime 😃🤎

Today in preschool AF was telling his friends about the hoglets he found in his garden. The children asked questions such as “what did they look like?” to which AF replied “they had spikes and little faces.” “Where do they live underground?” AF answered “underground.” KMJ then commented “in the mud.” This gave us the idea for today’s activity; mud painting with the intent of the children being creative and finding a new way to paint and use mud.
The activity was implemented by the table being set up with bun cases of mud mixed with water, books displaying a variety of creatures including hedgehogs, paintbrushes and a fork. The children came over to the table and were free to paint whatever they liked. The children all had their own individual ideas from “My Mammy to Miss Rabbit to a volcano to a lobster.” The children used their paintbrush to create their marks, describing what they were painting. AF used the fork to create a spike effect for his hedgehog. KMJ decided to paint her hand then make her handprint to which MD copied using her hands to spread the paint on her picture, showing excitement at the result.
This impact of the activity was the children achieved the intent as well as feeling a sense of belonging and freedom to express themselves. The children made marks and shapes for a reason to represent their chosen subject as well as developed their hand eye coordination and control over their tool.

🐒Mini monkeys🐒

Today in mini monkeys we have been doing some mark making in the sand. The children really enjoyed getting right into the sand and straight away dug right in. The children were provided all the resources needed such as a tuff tray, sand with a little gold glitter mixed in, shells, mini animals and mark making tools.

The children really enjoyed interacting with this activity. Child EJ enjoyed sitting right in the middle of the tuff tray and using the scoop to scoop up some sand and watch it pour. Child LW enjoyed using the claw and a shell to make different marks in the sand. Child ET enjoyed using the claws to dig around in the sand. Child EC enjoyed exploring the shells and looking at all the different designs on them.

The INTENT of this activity was to develop the children’s sensory experiences and to develop their early writing skills. WE IMPLEMENTED this by providing the resources and support if needed. The IMPACT of this activity was the children developing their sensory experiences with the texture of the sand with the textures of the shells and mini animals, also they developed their early writing skills.

🦒 Exploring Giraffes 🦒

👩‍💼👨‍💼”I love my job for all the little reasons” 📞🗒️

Today in the Exploring Giraffes room we thought it would be a great idea to set out an office like area. The children were invited over where they could use office desk pens, phones, notepads and keyboards. Child HB brought in their very own notebook and pen this morning which gave us the inspiration to let the children write and mark make in their own books with their own ideas and imaginations. As child SH picked up the phone and spoke as they role played, they said “I want to work in the dentist like my mummy”. We spoke about different jobs and took turns in using all the office equipment. This gave the children chance to share and take turns in using the different phones and pens. Child MM made lots of mark making in their note pad with the highlighters. Child AJ said “1, 2” as they went to dial numbers in the phone before speaking.
