Inspired by the Dalston Scarecrow Competition… we made our own!
Thank you to all the wonderful staff, children and parents who took part in our Abacus Scarecrow Competition. You’ve given us laughs, smiles and some seriously impressive creations!
It’s been a lovely way to bring everyone together and show off just how imaginative our Abacus family really is.

What a glorious week we have all had here in nursery enjoying the beautiful sunshine!
The children have engaged in fun, imaginative and sensory messy play in our exciting mud kitchen. Our soft play has promoted holistic physical development and actively encouraged the children's gross motor skills, stability such as climbing and balancing. Our exciting farmyard spaghetti, counting tray was a fabulous way to practice counting and number recognition. We extended this outside through our water tray emptying and filling the containers as well as playing "sink or float". The 'school cake, custard tray' encouraged us to explore our senses such as sight, smell touch and sound. The children have enjoyed lots of circle games which encourage the them to build confidence, turn take with friends and develop our listening skills. The children have shown a keen interest in role play and exploring the babies. To extend on this we gave them the opportunity to wash the babies which encouraged self care and empathy towards others.
Well done everyone you are all amazing!!

Wow! What an exciting week we all had last week here at Abacus Day Nursery!
We went on a Nature Hunt which helped the children engage with the natural world through colour, discovery, sensory exploration and motor skill development.
We now have beautiful butterflies that hatched out of their chrysalis's which is called an eclosion! The children all helped take care of the butterflies and gave them some juicy orange pieces to eat and some sugary water to drink! Then once their wings have dried we can introduce them to the world around them.
We also painted some colourful, sparkly butterflies that helped the children build crucial fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and personal expression and had an exciting sensory experience exploring all of the different textures in our discovery trays whilst helping develop the children's communication and language development.
We all then had a relaxing Yoga session, which helped promote the children's physical strength as they learned to use their muscles in new ways, achieving balance in their calm environment. How amazing! Well done everyone!

Please enjoy a look into our activities this week at Abacus!
We have had some real live 'very hungry caterpillars' which the children have loved watching grow and taking care of. We have been exploring different life cycles and the children are so excited to watch the caterpillars turn into butterflies!
We have been getting very messy with gloup and play doh using all of our senses to explore. As well as celebrating national Nurse's day and Finntastic Friday.
We can't wait to share more exciting news and posts with you all!

We kicked off National Storytelling Week at Abacus with a very special guest! Elinor Ellice author of Chester the Magic Dog, visited the nursery this morning to share her wonderful story with Badgers and Bears. It was a pleasure to meet a local author, and the children were thrilled to listen, ask lots of questions, and join in the magic. Thank you so much for visiting us!
