Yesterday we had a couple of our big ones for holiday care, although they are more like family/staff than childminding children as they like to help out where they can, from helping plan our day to helping organise plates, and food for lunch to wanting help wash the dishes and tidy up as well as help look after the children (but no nappies as they are just for the adults to do!! Their works not mine but 100% agree with them š¤£) We are very lucky to have kind, caring, responsible young children wanting to help so much.

Iām in shock, Iāve just had a message to say weāve been nominated for 2 categories for the Cumbria Baby and Childrenās Business Awards 2027.
I know we donāt have much chance of winning it as it goes on nominations and other settings in the category have larger following and some are known to post in international groups asking to vote for them. But when voting opens tomorrow and if you wish to vote for our little setting then please do get us little childminders out there and seen weāre just as good as those bigger settings..

A lot of people think working as a childminder or in nurseries is just playing all day long and is a 7am-5pm /8am-6pm job. What you donāt see behind the scenes in our own time is the planning for the week/term ahead, the preparation of activities each day, the mandatory 12 hour first aid, safeguarding, SENCO courses we have to do, any ongoing learning we may want to do. As a childminder you are not only an educator you are a doctor, chef, 2nd mum for hugs and cleaner all rolled into one.
Tonight after work I have been sat for about 2-3 hours planning for September to December. Yes we do have a plan on paper but being a home from home child led environment itās very rarely followed as the children pull us in all directions. Some may ask why we have a plan if we donāt follow it, itās because I like to know we have something to do if the children canāt think of anything (which is never!!)
We have a busier week next week and this time next Friday weāll be on annual leave for 2 weeks so we can rest and recharge our batteries and Iām definitely ready for this break this year.

We have a case of hand foot and mouth within the setting.
There is no exclusion for this as long as your child is well enough to take part in our activities and day we have planned.
But if your child is unwell with it please keep them at home where they will benefit for parental cuddles, and plenty of rest.
The child in question was in Monday and this morning, but is now off due to high temperature, blisters on feet and in mouth and is dehydrated due to being unable to drink or eat from the blisters on mouth.
We know this can have a knock on effect with working parents but most children just want their parents when they are unwell (I know when Iām poorly I still want my mam!) and Iāve always said and I still stick by it family comes first when children are poorly!
