Celebrations pending...75 years of Austin Friars School! 🎉

The 2026-27 academic year will mark the 75th anniversary of Austin Friars!

As we look back with pride on our rich history, we are equally excited about the future and the next chapter of our story.

A range of special events and celebrations are being planned to take place throughout the next academic year and we look forward to sharing more details with you soon.

Congratulations to our former pupils (plus a couple of guest players!) who took part at the Carlisle Rugby Club 7s tournament on Saturday.

The team did really well, ending up in the cup final having seen off Wigton, Creighton and Carlisle rugby clubs in previous matches.

Unfortunately, despite leading at halftime, the lads ran out of steam and we were unable to overcome a faster guest team from Penrith.

It was a great day with many current and former pupils attending. Mr Laidlaw and Mr Tiffen also turned up to lend a hand from the sidelines.

Thank you to Carlisle Rugby Club for a fabulous event and we look forward to attending next year!

Former pupil Christopher Murray (AF 1956 - 1962), Clare House, got in touch recently asking if we had any photos from the 1958 production of Gilbert & Sullivan's Iolanthe and the school trip he went on to Spain. We found the photos, and Christopher was able to spot himself in the chorus as the fairy furthest left!

This is a really interesting opportunity for our pupils 🎓

Our pupils now have access to billions of historical records through Ancestry Classroom - opening up exciting opportunities to explore genealogy and local history!

2nd and 3rd Form pupils are looking forward to conducting research into fallen soldiers from the First World War tomorrow (with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission), in preparation for their Battlefields Tour in September.

Former pupil Robin Muldrew visited school last week for a 'little trip down memory lane'. Robin attended Friars from 1982 to 1989 and was in Stafford house.

Former pupil Olivia Beckett plays for Whitburn Band. The band are Scottish champions and have been representing Scotland at the a European Championships this weekend, where they came 11th.
The band will compete at the National Brass band championships at the Albert Hall in October. Well done Olivia & co, and good luck for the Nationals! 🎼🎺
