Joint Celebration

Years 2 & 6 enjoyed a joint celebration with Rockcliffe and Blackford schools at St John’s in Houghton this morning. All three schools have been using the book ‘Heroes of Hope’ for a special R.E. week this week. Each class shared from the stage what they had learnt about their given hero during the week. Afterwards our children were given the opportunity to mix with the children from the other schools – taking part in games and activities and enjoying snack together. A huge thank you to Rachel from NISCU for leading this service and thank you to Kieran and St John’s staff for making us feel so welcome.

Tournament success! 🏆

Today it was the Year 5 & 6 Houghton girls turn to play in the CSSA football tournament at Harraby 3G.

There were some brilliant team goals, fantastic effort from every player, and smiles all around from start to finish.

The girls showed great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout, and we're so proud of every single one of them!

To top it all off, they came away tournament winners and are through to the County Finals!

A massive well done to all the player! Thank you to everyone who came along to support them, and a big thank you to Mark for being a great Manager ⚽🏆💚💛

Give a Day to the City 🧡

Today we welcomed Miriam (a local hero of hope!) from Give a Day to the City to our Collective Worship. She shared how this Carlisle charity has grown from one person with a pack of Post-it notes to a project that has blessed over 60,000 people with acts of kindness and hope.

Miriam reminded us that we can all be Heroes of Hope by using our hearts and hands to help others. Inspired by her visit, our classes will be creating treat packs, friendship bracelets and encouraging messages to spread joy in our community.

Thank you, Miriam, for inspiring us & for donating resources for us to use and thank you to our older worship leaders for taking part by asking Miriam questions.

Rachel from NISCU spent all day with us today – teaching each class the story of Corrie Ten Boom, a remarkable Dutch women and hero of hope, who bravely risked her life to protect people in her community by hiding them. After WWII had come to an end, Corrie set up a home for survivors of the concentration camps and spent decades travelling across the world as a public speaker and missionary sharing her story of courage, forgiveness and her faith in God.
Our children enjoyed learning all about Corrie Ten Boom with Rachel, making their own hiding place in a wardrobe, finding a mini Jesus in the classroom and some even had a game of hide and seek! Rachel said the children had some great questions!
Rachel finished off our day with leading our collective worship, telling us all about her ultimate hero of hope -Jesus!

This week is our special R.E. week. Our theme this year is 'Heroes of Hope' based on the book by Sharon Prentis and Alyssia-Lara Ayonrinde, which was kindly gifted to us by Carlisle Diocese. Each class will be learning about a different hero from the book, as well and thinking about how they themselves can become a hero of hope.

We've got lots planned for this week - themed lessons and collective worships, special guests, treasure hunts and opportunities to bring hope to others and a joint celebration with Blackford and Rockcliffe schools at St John's Church for a couple of classes.

The Christian Value we are exploring and learning about this half-term is ‘Friendship’ and on Thursday,
our new class Worship Leaders taught their class how to make friendship bracelets. Everyone in
school made one and gave it to someone else in their class. Everyone really enjoyed it and we know
that lots of children went home and made some more for their family and friends!

What a fantastic morning Birch Class had today! 🏭

We were thrilled to welcome Tullie Museum into our classroom for a journey through Industrial Carlisle! The children travelled back in time through historical smells, artefacts and photographs to discover what life was like in the past.

There were lots of great questions, observations and curious faces as the children discovered more about Carlisle’s industrial past.

A brilliant, hands-on morning bringing our history learning to life!
