Penguin’s 🐧 and Owl’s 🦉

Gruffalo Crumble 🐻🥣

Today we have been busy making a yummy Gruffalo Crumble, this activity led on from the children’s interest in the book “The Gruffalo”! The ladies gathered the children to read the story in the garden before talking about the baking process and what we were going to create today! We went on to wash our hands before the ladies explained why they were wearing PPE to prepare the food and keep clean when handling the food. We began by chopping up the fruit into small pieces and looking at the instructions on what to do on each step of the instructions. Meg helped the children to hold the knife correctly and cut the fruits up before, placing them into our tray. Ella and our preschool friends went on to create the crumble mixture for the top where Ella explained the steps and how we create the crumble mix. The ladies then went upstairs and placed our crumble in the oven and let it cook for 40 mins until it was golden brown. We then enjoyed our yummy crumble and spoke about all the yummy fruits we had used.

The INTENT of this activity was for the children to learn some life skills, whilst developing an interest and baking some yummy food. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by having the ingredients and all the different resources for the children to use. The IMPACT of this activity was to allow the children to learn life skills, get creative, and enjoy a yummy snack.

All in all the children had a brilliant morning making our yummy Gruffalo Crumble and we can’t wait to tell you all about it!🍂

Explore the light board with us! 🧡🍂🤎

Today in Penguin’s we have been exploring the light board and the autumnal items, this led on from us talking about the colours of autumn yesterday! So the ladies got lots of different natural items for us to explore with alongside the light board. Throughout we spoke about all the different colours we could see, the items and then went on to use our senses when exploring to. We went on to take about the sounds the leaves made when we squashed them in our hands and how the pinecones felt when we ran our fingers along them. The children looked at all the different items and were able to explore the natural items in many different ways and in different colours too.

The INTENT of this activity was for the children to explore the natural resources and use coloured lights to do so.The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by having the light board and natural resources for the children to use. The IMPACT of this activity was to allow the children to develop their fine and gross motor skills, colour recognition, and their imagination too.

All in all the children had a brilliant morning exploring the natural objects with the light board and we can’t wait to tell you all about it!🍂

🦁 J-JP’s Birthday At MG, painting with the wild animals.🍃

This morning in Owls, we celebrated J-JP’s birthday for Sunday. He requested a wild animal themed painting activity. There was a variety of animal figures, storybooks, paint, party hats and balloons. The Owls showed great excitement as they explored the different wild animals, talking about what they could see and sharing their knowledge of animal names. They picked an animal figure and used them to create colourful prints and patterns using paint. The children enjoyed seeing what different marks the animals made and experimented with a range of colours and techniques, some even used their hands!
Throughout the activity, the children were encouraged to identify animals, discuss what the animals look like and where they would live and describe the colours and patterns they could see.

The intent of this activity was to encourage children's creativity and explore through play, painting and small world resources. We aimed to support communication and language development, fine motor skills, creativity, and understanding of the world by introducing children to a range of wild animals and their environments. Whilst also celebrating their friend’s birthday by helping each other out on party hats and turn taking with balloons.

The ladies implemented this by creating a rainforest area using animal figures, books, paint, and natural looking resources to spark the children's interest. The setup encouraged the children to investigate the animals, talk about what they knew, and use the figures to create marks and prints with paint.
The ladies modelled language relating to animals, colours, patterns, habitats, and textures, while supporting discussions about the different creatures the children could see. The children were encouraged to make choices, share ideas, and explore different ways of creating marks and artwork using the resources provided.

The impact of this activity was that the Owls were highly engaged throughout the activity and demonstrated excellent concentration, creativity, and curiosity. They developed their fine motor skills through holding and using the animal figures and their hands.
Communication and language skills were strengthened as the children discussed the animals, their features, and the marks they created. The activity also supported understanding of the world by encouraging children to recognise different wild animals and learn about their environments.
The children enjoyed expressing themselves creatively and showed confidence in exploring the resources. We also had a lot of fun getting photos with the party hats and the number 4! Before lunch we all had a boogie with the balloons and some music 🎵

Kinetic sand! ❤️⏳

Today in Penguin’s we have made kinetic sand to explore following on from our interest in messy play and the sand. We helped the ladies gather the ingredients and mix up the kinetic sand too where we chose the colour too. Throughout we spoke about our senses and how they were affected by the kinetic sand talking about what it looked like, smelt like and felt like too. The children used their hands and other items to scoop up the kinetic sand transporting it around, squashing and squeezing the sand too. We later went on to talk about the sand and how we could use the different loose parts to explore the sand further.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to explore a new texture, whilst using a range of objects to explore. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having a range of resources for the children to use and explore too. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to explore using their senses, explore a new texture and use loose parts throughout too.

All in all we have had a fabulous day exploring the Kinetic sand and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

All About Feelings 🎨💛🥰🥺
This morning in Owls as we have been loving talking about feelings using the emotion spoons we made an emotions and mark making activity! This morning we read the story All About Feelings, the Owls were very good at pointing out the different emotions in the story. The children used colourful pens, natural resources, emotion spoons, and a mirror to see their facial expressions. The children were encouraged to talk about different feelings and emotions, identify the expressions they could see on the emotion spoons, and share experiences that make them feel happy, sad, loved and worried. Using the coloured pens, the children made marks, drawings and pictures to represent different emotions and experiences.
The children demonstrated curiosity and confidence as they explored the resources, discussed their feelings and expressed themselves through mark making and conversation.

The intent of this activity was to support children's emotional literacy and communication skills through discussion, storytelling and creative mark making. We aimed to encourage children to recognise and name different emotions, develop their confidence in expressing feelings, and strengthen their early mark making and fine motor skills. Also discussing what colours they can see and associate with different feelings and emotions.

The ladies implemented this by creating a feelings themed activity using the book about feelings and emotions, colourful pens, natural resources and emotion spoons displaying a variety of facial expressions and a mirror to see their own facial expressions. The ladies asked opened ended questions to encourage conversations, such as "How do you feel today?" and "What makes us happy or sad?"
The children explored the resources, discussed the different emotions they could identify and used pens to draw marks and pictures. The ladies used emotional language, encouraged turn taking in conversations and supported the children in sharing their own feelings and recognising the feelings of others.

The impact of this activity was that the children were highly engaged throughout the activity and showed great interest in discussing emotions and sharing their thoughts. They developed their communication and language skills by learning new vocabulary associated with feelings.
The activity also supported personal, social and emotional development as children explored their own emotions and considered the feelings of others. Fine motor skills and early mark-making skills were further developed through drawing and holding pens.

Look what our Ducklings have been up to this week….🤍

Monday we had lots of fun exploring the music instruments with Angel in song time. We used the different instruments to create different musical patterns to play along with our nursery rhymes.🪘🪕🪇

Tuesday we decided to have a calm morning exploring the colours and sensory toys. We used our hand, feet and mouth to explore the different t textures of the toys. We used our eyes to look at the different lights on the light cube.🌈💡💛

Welcome to our play dough station! 🥣

Today in Penguin’s we have been exploring the play dough the ladies had created for us with lots of different natural resources. This led on from the children pushing the natural items into things and looking at the pattern they left behind. So we used all the different items to explore and enhance our play dough seeing all the different patterns talking about the sizes of things, what they looked and felt like too. The children did a great job of using their own ideas to develop their play and also asked different questions throughout allowing them to leave about the process of printing patterns. The children squashed and squeezed the play dough pulling it apart and transporting the Play Dough alongside enveloping the different items inside.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to explore patterns and how they are made using different resources. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by having lots of different resources to use. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to explore patterns and look at different ways to make different patterns.

All in all we have had a fabulous day exploring the play dough and we can’t wait to tell you all about the patterns we made! 🥰

This morning in Owls, we explored a seaside themed mark-making activity. The children gathered around our beach-inspired activity as they enjoy the sandpit. Where they discovered sand, shells, driftwood, paintbrushes, story books and wooden discs displaying different letters and shapes.
The children used the brushes and natural resources to create marks, patterns and lines in the sand. They explored the different textures of the materials and enjoyed making footprints, letters swirls and shapes. The children were encouraged to identify familiar letters, recognise their names and talk about the shapes and patterns they could see.
The children demonstrated curiosity as they experimented with different tools and techniques, discovering how each resource created different marks and effects in the sand.

The intent of this activity was to encourage children to develop their early mark making skills through sensory exploration and play. We aimed to support communication and language development, early literacy skills and fine motor control whilst creating opportunities for the children to explore a seaside theme and recognise marks that have meaning,such as letters and their names.

The ladies implemented this by creating an a seaside themed mark making area as the children love playing in the sand pit. The ladies used sand, shells, driftwood, paintbrushes, books and wooden discs with letter on that the children could find a letter from and use to copy. The children used brushes and natural materials to draw and make patterns in the sand, while the ladies modelled language relating to shapes, lines, textures and marks. Discussions also centred around recognising their names, identifying familiar shapes and exploring the different marks they could create.

The impact of this activity was that the children were highly engaged throughout the activity and demonstrated excellent concentration and curiosity. They developed their fine motor skills through holding brushes, drawing in the sand and using the natural resources. Communication and language skills were used through conversations about the seaside objects, the marks they created and the shapes they recognised. The activity also supported early literacy development as children explored pre-writing skills, recognised familiar marks and letters. The children continued to show their mark making skills later on in the day when they were playing with the whiteboards!

We’re excited to share that over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing the AP Smilestars supervised toothbrushing programme to our Preschool children! 🪥😁

We’ll be helping our little ones learn how to look after their teeth, develop positive brushing habits and understand why looking after their smiles is so important.

And it’s not just about brushing! 💛

Alongside the programme, we’ll be sharing lots of hints, tips, advice and support for our families, covering everything from those very first baby teeth right through to when your child leaves nursery.

Autumnal Rolling 🍂

Today in Penguin’s we have been busy experimenting with the autumnal items to see which items would roll, allowing us to experiment with these objects leading to conversations about size, speed and how these things happened too. This led on from the children’s interest in rolling the conkers last week and watching how far they could roll. The children were able to use conkers, pinecones, sticks and other items to do so. Throughout we spoke about what was happening and how we could enhance our ideas and make them work better too. The children were able to count whilst taking part to showing the ladies some of their counting skills too. This was a great learning opportunity for the children to explore natural resources, develop their mathematics too.

The INTENT of this activity was for the children to explore the natural resources and experiment with them using the pipes.The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by having a range of pipes and natural resources for the children to use. The IMPACT of this activity was to allow the children to develop their fine and gross motor skills, mathematics, and their imagination too.

All in all the children had a brilliant morning rolling all the natural items and we can’t wait to tell you all about it!🍂
