🏛️ A house with a story

Did you know that the main building at St John’s College was originally a Victorian country house?

Built between 1885 and 1889, Tŷ-to-Maen was designed by Cardiff architect E. Bruce Vaughan for Richard Allen of Spillers.

Today, more than 130 years later, it is still at the heart of our school.

🔑 Discover its story at Cadw Open Doors.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of our former Head of PE, Roger Goode.

Roger inspired generations of St John's College pupils through his passion for sport, his unwavering commitment to fair play, and his belief that character mattered just as much as achievement. As a teacher, coach and mentor, he left a lasting impression on so many who had the privilege of learning from him.

His legacy continues to live on through the annual Roger Goode Award, presented to pupils who best embody the values he championed: integrity, respect, true sportsmanship and generosity of spirit. It is a fitting tribute to a man whose influence extends far beyond the playing field.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Roger's family, friends and all those whose lives he touched. He will be remembered with great affection and gratitude by the entire St John's College community.

May he rest in peace.

We are so proud of Lucas Z and his superb achievements in chess. Congratulations, Lucas!

Bored during lockdown, Cardiff schoolboy Lucas Zheng started playing chess online for fun. He soon realised he had a hidden talent for the ultimate game of strategy.
It all began during lockdown, when Lucas' dad suggested to his son that if he was going to play on screens he could try chess.
Before long, it was more than just a fun hobby for him to help break the boredom of the pandemic. Now, he competes across the globe in international competitions. 👏
