We have arrived at our Brand New Location at the Cardiff Martial Arts Academy, Norbury Road, Fairwater, Cardiff, CF5 3AU, and are looking forward to dynamic plyometric exercises on this new type of floor.

We can't wait to push our practice further and excel both personally and as a club with 31 registered members, of which 10 are KDS Black Belts and 3 are Black Belts from other styles. Together with a good range of new members of all adult ages and mid ability grades, our community practices are second to none.

A fantastic future awaits as we first prepare for the next club grading and then the Karate-do Shotokai Summer School in Aug 2026.

What a year it’s been - here are just a few highlights:

🥋 2 new black belts awarded, bringing us to 11 black belts training regularly
👊 2 new instructors began their journey and are now leading beginner classes
📈 Membership has grown steadily, with more people training than ever
🧠 Split sessions introduced, allowing tailored practises for beginners and higher grades
☀️ And this year we’re taking at least 10 people to Summer School!

*** It's All Happing in KDS Cardiff ***

A typical KDS Cardiff night of training with a Split Session, a Grading, a Beginners Introduction, plus Dan Grade/Coach Mentoring all in the same session running at the same time.

Fantastic effort by everyone as usual keeping the KDS Cardiff spirit well and truly alive and developing for the future with 30 members including 12 Black Belts from 1st to 5th Dan (5th Dan being the highest level achievable in the Karate-do Shotokai organisation).

This year is the 60th anniversary of when the UK KDS was officially formed by the late Mitsusuke Harada who passed away 5 years ago on the 26th February. He was a teacher, a guide, and an inspiration to so many around the world.

His legacy lives on not only in the techniques he refined, but in the spirit, humility, and philosophy he shared so generously throughout his life. For those of us fortunate enough to learn from his teachings, his influence remains present in every movement, every lesson, and every moment of practice.

On this 60th anniversary of the UK KDS we remember him with gratitude and respect. We honour the years he devoted to guiding others, and we continue our training with the intention of carrying his principles forward.

His path is still our path.
