Many children are left to fail. This happened to our company founder, Mike Jones, and is still happening today because there are not enough specialist teachers to support the number of children who need help.
Specialist teaching is a solution that is currently unavailable to the education system and is often unaffordable to parents.
Nessy has a range of resources to help parents and teachers understand dyslexia and provide the appropriate support to children with dyslexia.

Meltdowns are a common feature of neurodiversity. They are NOT tantrums, they are NOT about getting your own way, they happen to those of ALL ages, and trust me when I say they are worse for the person having one than they are for those watching one happen.
Triggers can be one event (like something sudden and unexpected) or due to a cumulative effect of seemingly smaller issues. They are feelings that are simply too overwhelming to process.
Of course we cannot prevent them all, but identifying triggers in ourselves and others can help us to sometimes mitigate some of them. Be it a change of environment, support in an activity, knowing when sensory input needs to be reduced, or simply knowing we need a 'time out' to regulate ourselves in whatever way helps us the most. And being afforded that time and space by others.
So, let's stop shaming those having meltdowns and start to see how we can use what we understand positively, as a means to provide more help or support where it's needed the most!

April is Autism Acceptance month- have you thought about what you will do to increase acceptance and understanding? A great way to start is with having open and honest discussions with your kids about disabilities and accepting others. In fact, these are great conversations to have on a regular basis! Even if you're seeing a seemingly calm and collected child, they may be experiencing a whole lot more underneath if they have anxiety.
Working with an OT to recognise, express and regulate experiences of anxiety can be very effective in reducing and managing episodes of anxiety.
