Congratulations to Cardiff Metropolitan University student Rupert Combes on successfully completing his year-long international placement with Superfish S.A.C. in Lima, Peru, funded through Taith.
His experience is a fantastic example of how international opportunities can help students develop both professionally and personally. Working as a Commercial Trading Intern within the international seafood export industry, Rupert gained hands-on experience in areas including CRM management, market research, sales outreach, international B2B communication, client engagement, marketing materials and export data analysis.
As part of his placement, he also had the opportunity to attend business meetings, connect with international buyers, visit processing facilities and gain a deeper understanding of production, logistics and global supply chains. He supported the company’s transition towards building more direct relationships with international clients, gaining valuable insight into commercial strategy and international trade.
Beyond the technical skills developed, the experience challenged him to grow in confidence, improve his professional Spanish, adapt to a new culture and working environment and strengthen key skills such as independence, resilience, problem-solving and communication.
International placements provide much more than workplace experience, they help students broaden their perspectives, build global networks and develop the confidence to succeed in an increasingly connected world.
A huge well done to Rupert for embracing this opportunity and making the most of his time in Peru. Wishing you every success for the future, this experience will undoubtedly be a valuable part of your career journey.
