Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Project - Funded by the EU Commission - Co-ordinated by Cardiff Metropolitan University

The ELEMENT project aims at fulfilling the overall and specific programme objectives. In accordance with the overall Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Strand 1 objectives, the Egypt-Lebanon-EU Mobility Exchange NeTwork (ELEMENT) aims to promote European higher education, to help improve and enhance the career prospects of students and to promote intercultural understanding through cooperation with third cou

ntries, in accordance with EU external policy objectives in order to contribute to the sustainable development of third countries in the field of higher education. Cardiff Metropolitan University was granted the Egypt-Lebanon-EU Mobility Exchange NeTwork (ELEMENT) on 15th July 2011 through the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Strand 1 programme. This action aims at fostering structured cooperation between European and third-country higher education institutions through the promotion of mobility at all level of studies for students. The ELEMENT project offers scholarships for undergraduate and masters, doctoral candidates, researchers, academic and administrative staff through funding from the European Commission. The project aims at enhancing the academic cooperation between European, Egyptian and Lebanese universities by bringing together students, staff as well as young and senior researchers involved in the same disciplines or forming multidisciplinary teams to cover research domains identified by the third country universities as “priorities”. The organisation of the mobility activities supported by the project will be a step toward the creation of more co-diplomas and co-thesis with stronger exchanges between PhD students from both EU, Egyptian and Lebanese sides, especially around the disciplines and themes which are of interest for Egyptian, Lebanese and European universities. Another very important objective of this project concerns the sharing of best practices between the participants’ staff, in the field of “university governance” and in the implementation of the Bologna process. This project has planned some mobility activities for training the academic and administrative staff towards better “University governance”. The project will be therefore organized and managed to have structuring effects within Higher Education institutions and to build sustainable synergies. This action will have long term impact upon the harmonization of Higher Education systems in Egypt, Lebanon and the EU thus decreasing the gap existing between the institutions of these regions and contributing to the recognition of the degrees delivered in Egyptian and Lebanese HE institutions at the international level. The ELEMENT project can be viewed as a step towards the creation of a “Euro-Mediterranean higher Education area” aimed at bringing stronger multiple cooperation between European Universities and Universities in Egypt and Lebanon.

Cardiff Metropolitan University's Erasmus Mundus Project Officer, Natasha Bahadur, will be visiting La Sapienza University di Roma and the University of Graz next week!

All ELEMENT Project scholars currently at these universities are invited to meet her at the following times:

Sapienza University (05/05/2014) - 11am at the Welcome Office (Remember that the location of the Welcome Office has changed to the university campus! Entrance by viale dell'università 36)

University of Graz (06/05/2015) - 5:30pm at RESOWI building (Universitätsstraße 15), sector A, 2nd floor, room A2 SZ 15.21

Ms. Bahadur is very keen to receive your feedback on the project and hear your success stories. She will also be at hand to answer any questions or listen to any concerns that you may have with regards to your mobility. We urge you to try and attend these meetings as it will be a great opportunity to meet the Project Coordinator in person and to discuss how your scholarship is progressing.
