We’ve had lots of parents asking us recently about the new WJEC Maths GCSE… so here’s a quick, clear breakdown 👇

📚 What’s changed?
From September 2025, students will no longer sit separate Maths and Numeracy GCSEs.
Instead, they’ll take one combined “Mathematics & Numeracy (Double Award)” — worth two GCSEs.

📊 What does that mean?
✔️ One course → two grades (e.g. AA, BB)
✔️ Fewer exams overall
✔️ Much more focus on real-life maths (money, data, problem solving)
✔️ Greater emphasis on explaining answers, not just getting them

💡 Why this matters for your child
This new course is less about memorising methods and more about:
• understanding concepts deeply
• applying maths to real situations
• building confidence with multi-step problems

🎯 How we’ve adapted at Aspire Education
We’ve already adjusted our teaching to match the new specification:
✔️ Strong focus on core skills (“back to basics”)
✔️ Regular practice of problem-solving & exam-style questions
✔️ Built-in financial maths + real-world examples
✔️ Emphasis on clear written explanations (key for top grades)
✔️ Small group tuition with a personalised approach — every pupil follows an individual learning path, so they can build confidence, work at their own pace, and be challenged appropriately

🚴‍♂️ Tour of Britain – Cardiff Road Closures 🚴‍♀️

Aspire students + families, please note 📚:
On Sunday 7th September, the Lloyds Tour of Britain Men cycle race runs from Newport → Cardiff, finishing at Cardiff Castle 🏰.

⚠️ Road closures between 1–3pm in Cardiff, especially around:
• Caerphilly Road
• North Road
• Civic Centre
• Castle Street

👉 If you’re heading to tuition or activities, make sure to allow extra travel time ⏰.
