Today’s Khutbah Reminder 🌿
In today’s khutbah, Sheikh Umar reminded us that Allah tells us:
كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ أَن رَّآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ
“Indeed, mankind transgresses when he sees himself as self-sufficient.”
[Surah Al-‘Alaq 96:6–7]
One of the beautiful lessons we learn from the Sunnah of the Prophets is الافتقار إلى الله — iftiqār ilā Allāh: recognising our complete dependence upon Allah and knowing that we are never truly independent of Him.
No matter our strength, knowledge, success or circumstances, we remain in constant need of Allah’s guidance, mercy and help.
The Prophet ﷺ taught us to say:
يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ، أَصْلِحْ لِي شَأْنِي كُلَّهُ، وَلَا تَكِلْنِي إِلَى نَفْسِي طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ
“O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, through Your mercy I seek help. Set right all of my affairs and do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye.”
A beautiful reminder that our strength is not in being independent of Allah, but in recognising how deeply we need Him — in every moment and in every matter.
