Shining Stars Nursery School

We are joining in the Volunteers Week celebrations this week at Shining Stars. As you all know, volunteering really does underpin everything we do here - we simply couldn’t do it without our committed group of volunteers.

This is our wonderful Nursery Director, Jackie, who has been volunteering with Shining Stars since it re-opened at our new location at Canton Community Church, September 2023.

Jackie’s face is a picture of warmth and kindness when asked about her experience of volunteering: “I love it. I love to see the children grow and develop - and to see how they change over their time here, arriving at two years old and leaving us ready to go off to school”.

When asked more about that sense of satisfaction that comes with volunteering Jackie says, “I know that I am helping, the children and often parents as well; I have the training behind me and so I understand how we can help their child together… hearing the feedback from the parents, they can see their child has got more confidence, or speaking better, for example.”

When asked whether she would encourage other people to volunteer, Jackie’s response is instant; “Yes, yes, I would. I think volunteering is really good, especially if you're not sure, but you want to move towards a qualification…when you volunteer, especially with different ages, you see what age group you're more suited to. So it's good to volunteer before you dive into it, and get a job somewhere…you find out exactly what you're more suited to and what you enjoy more. Volunteering really is an enriching experience on many levels for all concerned.”

What a lovely first week back after the Easter holidays! 🌼

Our children jumped straight into spring-themed fun. They created adorable hedgehogs, bunnies and fluffy lambs, building their fine motor skills and concentration as they worked. Afterwards, their finished creations were proudly displayed on the wall for everyone to enjoy. 🐑🦔 🐰

They also enjoyed some messy fun and came together for a big group painting. They explored colours and used different brushes, while developing teamwork and communication. 🎨

Finally, the children set up their own “garden centre”. They enjoyed doing some roleplay with flowers and plants - a great way to spark their imagination and develop their social interaction. 🌷

All in all, it’s been a brilliant week of creativity, collaboration, and learning through play! ✨

Take a look at what our children got up to in the nursery just before Easter! 🐣

Our little ones were full of creativity 🐰✨ They made colourful Easter eggs from paper and card, crafted baskets to carry their chocolate treats, and designed fun bunny masks.

These activities gave them a chance to practise fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they cut, glued, and decorated. Posing with their rabbit masks also helped boost their confidence and spark their imagination!

Happy Mother's Day! 🌺 From all of us at Shining Stars 💕

It's been another fantastic week of learning through play at Shining Stars! 🌟

Our little stars got creative making special Mother’s Day cards, painting colourful handprints and creating their own designs - a great way for them to build their fine motor skills and express themselves through art 🎨

Messy play was a big hit, too! The children made their very own “grass” using dry spaghetti and food colouring. This easy sensory activity encouraged curiosity and lots of hands-on exploration 🌈

And of course, there was some baking as well 👩‍🍳 The children helped make omelettes, practising their coordination while developing their independence and confidence.

We love seeing them build new skills, while having fun and getting creative every day ⭐
