BIG NEWS!! Here at Shining Stars Cardiff CIC, we are teaming up with the "Designed to Smile" programme Wales, starting from September.

We, at Shining Stars cannot express the importance of promoting good daily toothbrushing for your child. We are very excited that through this collaboration we will be able to encourage the children to look after their teeth like pros!

Joining our nursery is not just about organising childcare for your child. It is about giving them an opportunity to shine in a caring and healthy environment.

Todays book recommendation is a children's classic story book called the hungry caterpillar by Eric Carle.

Linked below is a video version of the story that you and your child can watch together where we challenge you to an activity that is inspired by the book.

You could go outdoors to hunt for butterflies, caterpillars, leaves and flowers. You can talk about the cycle life of the caterpillar that eventually transform into a butterfly.

With the flower and leaves get creative and make your own butterfly we would love to see the pictures during the new term!

We are joining in the Volunteers Week celebrations this week at Shining Stars. As you all know, volunteering really does underpin everything we do here - we simply couldn’t do it without our committed group of volunteers.

This is our wonderful Nursery Director, Jackie, who has been volunteering with Shining Stars since it re-opened at our new location at Canton Community Church, September 2023.

Jackie’s face is a picture of warmth and kindness when asked about her experience of volunteering: “I love it. I love to see the children grow and develop - and to see how they change over their time here, arriving at two years old and leaving us ready to go off to school”.

When asked more about that sense of satisfaction that comes with volunteering Jackie says, “I know that I am helping, the children and often parents as well; I have the training behind me and so I understand how we can help their child together… hearing the feedback from the parents, they can see their child has got more confidence, or speaking better, for example.”

When asked whether she would encourage other people to volunteer, Jackie’s response is instant; “Yes, yes, I would. I think volunteering is really good, especially if you're not sure, but you want to move towards a qualification…when you volunteer, especially with different ages, you see what age group you're more suited to. So it's good to volunteer before you dive into it, and get a job somewhere…you find out exactly what you're more suited to and what you enjoy more. Volunteering really is an enriching experience on many levels for all concerned.”

A wholehearted thank you to dear Jackie and all our wonderful volunteers here at Shining Stars for all you do!
