Last week, pupils at Dan Y Coed enjoyed a special visit from local Police Community Support Officers, Alex Sumner-Jones and Patrick Dunbar.

The officers visited each class, giving pupils the opportunity to learn more about their role in the community and even try on parts of the police uniform.

One of the highlights of the visit was the chance to explore the police car, with pupil RB especially excited to turn on the lights and sirens!

A huge thank you to Alex and Patrick for taking the time to visit and making our pupil’s day!

ZA from Ty George enjoys a game of bowling every week and usually takes on the lanes solo. This week, however, he was delighted to challenge Simon to a friendly match! 🎳

After a fantastic game, ZA couldn't hide his excitement. With a huge smile on his face, he proudly celebrated his victory by flashing the classic "L" sign on his forehead, making sure everyone knew exactly who the loser was! 😆

It's great to see ZA building confidence, enjoying social opportunities and, most importantly, having plenty of fun along the way.

AME from our Dan Y Coed service has recently begun a six-week learner placement, during which they will complete a woodworking project as part of their learning journey.

The placement provides an excellent opportunity to develop new skills through hands-on learning, experience a different environment and meet new people along the way.

We look forward to seeing the project take shape over the coming weeks and following AME's progress throughout the placement.

Recently, Ty Trafle School was proud to celebrate the official opening of Gowerton’s Community Garden.

Back in September 2025, Councillor Dai Jenkins invited the school to take on the care of the garden, following many years of dedication from his mother, Gloria. Ty Trafle School was honoured to support such a meaningful and valued community space.

To mark the special occasion, the school was delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Swansea, alongside local councillors and Gloria herself, to celebrate the garden’s official opening. Following the event, guests joined staff and pupils back at Ty Trafle School for a lovely tea party.

It was a wonderful occasion and a fantastic opportunity to showcase the positive contribution Ty Trafle School pupils make within the local community.

A huge well done to The Old Vicarage’s DST, who has recently started a new work placement with The Men’s Shed in Pontypridd.

Thanks to the support of the Academy Living team, he has been able to take the woodworking skills developed in Orb’s onsite woodworking studio into a new environment, where he is now helping to complete community projects.

It’s fantastic to see skills, confidence and independence continue to grow through meaningful opportunities within the local community!
