Today is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Rosemary Sutcliff, acclaimed author of children's historical novels and the inspiration for a good few Roman historians and archaeologists out there including Cardiff's Kate Gilliver.
Kate contributed to this wonderful podcast by David Walsh of the University of Kent on Sutcliff, what inspired Sutcliff, and how she inspired others.

Oh wow, there's a Lego Colosseum about to hit the shelves! Apparently Lego's biggest ever set - and probably not the best thing for a rather over-worked Roman historian to fork out for (especially given the eye-watering price!)
In any case, would you want a 'ruined' Colosseum instead of the bricks to build a complete Roman period Colosseum, complete with lego lions, tigers and gladiators? What do you think?
