What a tiring but immensely enjoyable five days exploring “The Mineral Potential of Cornwall”.
Over the course of the fieldtrip, the chapter visited a mixture of historic metaliferrous brownfield sites, grass-roots greenfield projects and incredible outcrops that are on any geologists must see list.
Participants covered:
- An introduction to the geological and metallogenetic history of Cornwall.
-How Drilling programs are devised, and their contribution to robust geological models
-How to identify diagnostic minerals, ore textures, alteration products, and structures within core.
- An introduction to Geothermal energy production and associated geotechnical issues.
Many thanks go to our hosts: Cornwall Resources, Cornish Metals Inc., Geothermal Engineering Limited and the Rosevale Mine restoration project. Your expertise and kind reception was well received and appreciated.
A special thanks goes to our sponsor SRK UK for making sure this trip was accessible to everyone.
Finally, many thanks and a warm welcome to the members of Bristol SEG Student Chapter and SEG Student Chapter TU Bergakademie Freiberg who joined us on this trip.
Hope to see you all at the next one.
